What was the last project that worked out for the Pistons? Did we ever have anybody on the edge of being NBA worthy that ended up becoming a solid contributor because of a multi year development plan where they sat the bench for a while and were then slowly eased into games?
Monroe came off the bench the first half of his rookie season. Darko sat the bench for a while and then...
Don't stress trying to answer that. It is has never happened. Ben Wallace comes to mind as somebody that could have been considered a project who eventually worked out beyond all expectations. But he wasn't a project for us and the team that gave him a chance initially didn't get the reward (Bullets?).
I didn't like Greg Monroe early in his rookie season. I was wrong. I didn't like picking Brandon Knight at PG. I was wrong. I didn't like Andre Drummond at UConn, felt he was overrated. And even though it's just pre-season, I was wrong. I didn't believe a front court pairing of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond could ever work. And even though it's only a very small sample size in the pre-season, once again (apparently) I was wrong. I will shut up now.
Tay Prince? He's the only guy who I could think of but he sort of emerged by accident. At the time, I felt like Cola benched Tablecloth as punishment and Tayshaun sorta just took the gig from him. I never felt like Tay was being "developed".
I agree with Rascoe. Keep making your observations. The more you say guys stink, the better the team gets.
