I am still conderned that Joe apparently left Thibodeau waiting by the phone after he had cancelled a trip to the movies...

No, but Daly was almost fired every 2 years as a Piston. The organization has been hard on coaches as long as it was under Davidson ownership, it's not just a JD thing, and may even be driven by management.

Anyone have the audio from Kuester's press conference?

I heard a few seconds from him on the radio. He sounds waaaaaaaaaay smarter than Michael Curry. Supposedly he says his focus will be on playing grindout defense.

He didn't say anything like "We good", did he?

OK, I wonder why I thought that? I thought he was pretty old before he got his first NBA coaching gig for some reason. I guess I should have looked it up.

I hope he'll stick to his pre-season statements better than Tablecloth did.

Yep. There was that whole thing about holding players accountable. I totally bought into that, although in hindsight I may have just been mesmerized by the tablecloth wardrobe.

Here's the irony...he wears a 2004 Pistons Championship ring which he earned! How about that. Here's a guy that coached on the team that won a world championship and yet none of the fans of that team ever heard of him!?!

Here's a guy that if you actually watched the Cleveland Cav's play spent more time on national TV drawing up plays than Coach Mike Brown.

Amazing that so many b-ball bluebloods could be caught this off guard. Anyone see the irony?

(I know it cracks me up)

New Pistons coach is Cavs’ John Kuester
    Yahoo Sports

"AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP)—In his decade running the Detroit Pistons, Joe Dumars hasn’t been known for showing patience with head coaches. He insists that is about to change. Moments after introducing Cavaliers assistant John Kuester as Detroit’s sixth coach in 10 years, Dumars said Thursday that Kuester “might have the most job security of anyone in the NBA.” “Bless you, Joe,” said Kuester with a laugh."

    I see the irony.
    ...it's ironic.

As far as Que's Job security, I'm seeing that too.

The last three coaches who got the axe - deserved it (although, I think that Joe and Bill-D shoulda known what they were getting into with LB. I felt Larry would have been well worth some significant ego massaging considering what he brings to a team. - I'm jus' sayin.)

Flip had a 'ship caliber team to work with and he didn't get it done. He should have been fired a year or two sooner IMO.
Tablecloth was a moron. He should have been fired a month or two sooner IMO.

Looking at the roster as it stands today. Que's job is more of a long-term project. Unless he completely stinks up the joint, he deserves a little bit more slack than Flip got.

    I expected a championship(s) outta Flip.
    I expect progress from Kuester.

Before earning infraction points from R36 for excessive flaming and personal attacks, ask from yourself: what kind of expectations you do have, regarding to Kuester?

I expect Kuester at first testing what his players are capable of - it may include many isos in first two months or so, then try to find dome balancing between similar spots( how to find time for two SGs?and missing spots( who might be capable of playing backup C?). Already those 2 tasks may take the whole season.

I expect him to get us past game 6 of the ECF. I'd actually be OK with a Finals loss this year if he plays the rookies a lot and gives them Finals experience.

As the roster stands today, he won't be able to make the critical mistake of pairing two Centers together.

I could still see a situation in which Tay would be asked to guard Shaq in the ECF though. Lord knows Summers isn't up the job yet.

I'm game with that. Shaq's no Nowitzki.
