And by the way, the Shock have only won one game since Bill resigned...so either they miss him or Plenette Pierson.....:sssh:

For most teams, it started the second Bill Laimbeer resigned.

Wow... There you go Joe. Does he already have his exit interview speech ready for the next guy?

I am going to laugh when Joe highers a guy with zero NBA head coaching jobs under his belt after citing that specifically as the reason for Curry getting canned.

If he pays a new hire 3M he's still paying an additional $2.5 to Curry for the next 2 seasons so he's really carrying +$5M on the books.
    3M isn't exactly chump change..

Gotta realise that if Bill was the man...He'd have been hired by now.
Joe will surprise everyone and go with somebody like Patrick Ewing.

Nice. So, he's basically telling the next hire that if they can make us a contender they will be canned for a coach who can take the team over the hump.

The problem is Laimbeer would also want to make personnel decisions; especially after being spoiled with the SHock wearing both GM and HC hats. So, if that was the sticking point with Avery, then Laimbeer would also be a no-go.

I seriously doubt it'll be Laimbeer.

Translation: We plan on suckin' for a few and I just don't feel that this team is worth spending the kind of green that will attract a good coach.

Agreed...Not seeming to have a plan "B" for when Avery said "no", and then making such statements...Seems like Joe is still a "Madman":stirthepot:

It started June 6th with a loss to the Sparks,, then a they beat the Sparks in the second game after the ring ceremony and then I think they lost game 3 and then Bill quit.... they are 1 and 5 under Mahorn. They were supposed battle the Sparks for the title, but neither team has won a road game and are struggling to stay out of the cellar.

    :focus:

Joe seems to be scrambling at this point with finding someone to give the job to and with AJ and Doug out of the picture, it maybe time to just use next season as a complete rebuild and hand it over to Bill to lead that change. We are not going to win it all anyway...so lets get Bill his experience...he cannot do any worse than Curry??? And if he does, we might get a top 5 pick out of it.....

It seems that Joe D wants no part of a guy named A. Johnson on that team.

I can understand him though. We would have been in trouble if the coach fouled out of every game.

Very true. Maybe Dumars should be the coach for a short time so he can find exactly what pieces he feels are needed. Why would anybody want this job right now? I like Dumars but he has been trigger happy when it comes to coaching. Also, if he were to coach for a while, maybe it would give him a little more patience for future coaches. Currently he appears unstable so any coach worth his salt will say no thank you without at least a four year contract.

Seems like Avery was negotiating pretty hard... like he wasn't thrilled about the gig anyway.

    Let's see...

$8mm to lose plus getting paid by ESPN for a few nights work a year or taking a head coaches job for around $4mm...

    What am I missing?

Exactly... He has too good of a situation right now. So naturally, in order to leave it, the Pistons would have to offer a better situation.

8 Mil. to sit at home and do a couple ESPN spots.... is soooo ideal!
