There were a lot of Steelers fans at Ford Field, and there are a lot of crickets chirping on the forum with regards to this game. Get your heads in the game, peopel!!! Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Detroit Lions - Recap - October 11, 2009 - ESPN 28-20 Lions. Steelers didn't cover the 10-point spread. That's a moral victory.
I thought they were going to pull it out there in the 1st Q. Culpepper is just too old now. Can't throw hard anymore.
Daunte took way too many sacks holding the ball too long. What the heck was that moon ball he threw up for an INT? C'mon a veteran should know better. Secondary is putrid, but its a talent issue. Schwartz has this team headed in the right direction, its just that they lack the basic talent to execute over 4 qtrs. The Lions look good for certain stretches but can't come up w/ a big play, that is the hall mark of a team lacking experienced talent. Going to take 2 drafts to fix what Melon did to this team. I didn't agree w/ some of last years draft picks but judging by the results the Lions have 4+ starters. When was the last time that happened?
Kevin Smith is gaining 3.1 yards per carry. That's the lowest average amongst the top 50 runners. Matthew Stafford is only ahead of Brady Quinn, JaMarcus Russel, and Jake Delhomme...with his 65 passer rating. Lions offense is rankes 20th. Still in the bottom third. Lions defense ranked 22nd. Still in the bottom third. I want to post but I may just come across as negative....
Trying to be more positive.... This Derrick Williams rookie looked pretty solid at wide receiver. You throw in Calvin Johnson, Bryant Johnson, Dennis Northcutt, and the big rookie tight end Brandon Pettigrew and you've got a pretty solid set of targets for any quarterback.
Not negative, the Lions still suck. That's the penalty of ignoring the trenches. Stafford is improving from his 1st game to his 4th game. I think he will settle down to be an above average starter. Remember he should still be a senior in college, still wet behind the ears. Rookie mistakes will be prevalent the whole season.
Hopefully Stafford isn't making these mistakes in 10 years when we have filled out the other positions on the team.
Yes he will be. Whether he works out or not, we're married to him for at least 5 years. That contract isn't going anywhere. Even releasing him would cost too much money against the cap. I was actually really impressed with the Lions on Sunday. They were without their #1 QB, #1 WR, 2 of their top defensive ends, one of their best DTs, their starting CB and starting safety. Granted, most of those guys wouldn't be starters on other teams, but they're still better than the guys that replaced them. They hung with the Superbowl Champs the entire game. They've already won more games than all of last season. They're coach appears to actually know how to make in-game decisions. The guys they drafted are actually making an impact.
I agree Jammer. I don't think we should hold these players and coaches responsible for our horrid past. (The owner is a different story). It seems like this year they are competing. It will be baby steps, but as long as we keep going forward, I'll take it.
I hate to say this but Stafford has enough "potential" to get traded even with his contract. Or, more likely, he gets racked up good and limps away with a guaranteed $40M.
