How does Wade's injury change the playoffs? Will the Heat still get a solid playoff spot? Will last years EC elite (Miami, and Detroit) face in the first round? Or will Miami not make the playoffs at all?

Who will take up the last 2 playoff spots? Right now Orlando, Miami, and NJ are in the hunt. Can another team sneak into the playoffs because of the crippled Heat now?

You think they will make 8th seed? They have a good chance I just put the teams that are really fighting for the spots right now?

Miami will definitely make the playoffs.

Orlando and New Jersey both suck, and New York has a much stronger roster than either of them but has several games to make up.

New York has always had a strong roster, they just don't mesh. They might be the most talented team in the league right now.

Isiah is doing a fairly good job coaching them this season, and for winning regular season games I'd much rather have a mismatched but talented roster like New York or Cleveland than a almost completely depleted roster like New Jersey.

Orlando falls more towards the former category than the latter but they have huge holes at several positions.

That will probably be the NBA story to watch the rest of the season: Will Miami make the playoffs? (as well as the subplots like "when will Dwayne have surgery?", etc.)

Now that the trade deadline is over, what other drama is left?

    Re: Playoff birth

If Wade comes back late in the season Miami should make the playoffs, but Wade could also have season ending surgery. The teams behind Miami are not much better though. If Miami doesn't make it NJ will have to play really good, or another team that is close to making the playoffs will have to make a late push.

Dwade is a fierce competitor and you just know he wants to defend that controversial championship. With that being said he is taking his time on making a decision to have the surgery now or try to come back and see if the heat can sneak into the playoffs. He is ignoring Riley calls and any wins this week without him will encourage him to try to come back this year.

I think (and hope) that he shuts it down and if he does, I think the Heat miss the playoffs all together. Shaqs minutes will go up and he will eventually wear down by playoff time anyway.

I see the Heat fading to the 10th spot and the fight for the seven and eight spots between the Magic, Nets and Knicks

Orlando is a pretty horrible team, if Trevor Ariza is out of action. With Trevor Ariza, Orlando is a winner. I am still picking Orlando 2nd in the East.

orlando 2nd in the east? heh...wow. no offense but getting ariza back isn't like getting a yao or kg or even rashard lewis back. orlando will be lucky to make the playoffs.

    Re: Playoff birth

For Orlando, it is like getting Ming back. Check it out. Orlando has had two good runs of late, end of last season, and to begin this one. But all that success was with Ariza heavily featured in the rotation. Whenever Ariza is not in the rotation, Orlando not only struggles, they pretty much can't win a game at all. Ariza is kind of like Delfino-a solid defender and the guy that gets to every loose ball, every rebound. The very nature of Orlando's team changes with him in the rotation.
