Here's an interesting read on colleges using student fees to pay for athletics: How student fees boost college sports amid rising budgets - USATODAY.com
I'm sorry but I have to laugh at folks who say give the football players (and they seem to think those are the only folks that should be paid) 200 dollars or so a month... One of the guys on Around the Horn was saying it was needed, I loved and agreed with another who said... you really think giving reggie bush 200 dollars a month would have kept him from taking hundreds of thousands of dollars... I think that coaches really really really... can i say REALLY need to have there salaries SLASHED to the point they make the same as college profs, if there is a surplus in money in the schools then I'm for improving the schools, the equipment, and the like.... but it should never go to the players in a cash pay out.
Can't use tuition, can't use state money, so we'll just tack on a hidden fee. Nice. Pretty soon they'll be charging to bring a suitcase on campus.
I remember going to Eastern Michigan and we had fees. Some of it was used to pay for the football stadium expansion. [SARCASM]At least the EMU football team is good.[/SARCASM]
We had fees at MSU. You could go to the business office at the beginning of each term and "opt-out" but nobody ever did. Having to walk across campus, stand in line and fill out a bunch of forms in order to recieve a $7 check in the mail just didn't seem worth it to me.
We will see how good EMU's football team is tomorrow when they [STRIKE]play[/STRIKE] get run off the field in Ohio Stadium tomorrow playing the Buckeyes. Right now the line is 44 pts....we EMU alumni will feel it is a victory if we only lose by 28 points or less.
