I wonder if Joe had known (assuming he didn't) that he would acquire AI if he would have given the coach's job to Curry. The acquisition clearly moved what was required of the Piston's coach beyond Curry's skillset.

    Nice pick for a coach!

Way to go with your gut Joe.

And he couldn't intervene mid season to save the situation?

It comes down to whether or not Joe knew how bad the situation had gotten. Personally, I believe he had no clue the situation was as bad as it was, because he personally endorsed MC at the end of the season, and then a couple of months later fired him. To me that signifies that the details about the situation must have come out after he endorsed MC.

Joe knew exactly what was going on, he's not a micro-manager, but he's a micro-manager. He's doesn't stand over your shoulder and look at everything you do, but he sees everything from a distance, then you sit down for your review and he pulls out a file 6 inches thick- with pictures pictures of your family - kinda like Kobayashi in Usual Suspects.

Joe never intervenes in Mid-Season, it's his biggest strength and flaw all at the same time.

Joe also endorsed Rick Carlisle while he was working to get Larry Brown out of his Sixers contract.

    Great post btw. Thanks Dom.

When Joe starts endorsing you, it's usually time to update your resume and start packing your bags.

Nice reference to The Usual Suspects, great movie. But it's interesting to hear this from RIP. When AI said it before I figured he was just talking, but now it actually has merit. I wonder if anything else will come out.

    No thanks.

I've already got a Billups #1 and Ben Wallace #3.

Maybe my Prince #22 will also become obsolete by the end of the season?

I can't wait to get a sweet deal on a 'Sheed Wallace #30 Celtic shirt next year after dude retires a champ. It'll look nice hanging next to the Trailgangsters, Hawks and Detroit gear that I already own.

Rip speaking out is a sure sign he knows he's being moved.

Or that he desperately wants to be moved.
