Only AI could make Zach Randolph, who they probably have to talk out of playing with a blunt tucked in his headband before each game, seem level headed and team oriented.
Some more coverage on NBA.com: NBA.com: Iverson on indefinite leave from Grizzlies What's really really sad is all of this is happening with less than 2 weeks into the season. If he calls it quits and retires now, there'll at least be some decent end to this sad sad downward spiral. Here's to hoping that he declares that he's retiring, leave almost the entire money on the table since he's done nothing to earn it so far, apologize to the Grizzlies fans and ride into the sunset.
From stardom to faildom. Must be a rough time for his ego at the moment. Why is he so thick? Just play off the bench, man. Not that hard. Mayo could have said great things about you such as how you helped developed his skills, etc. SMH.
Just saying, I think Memphis knew he wouldn't come off the bench, the Clippers were interested but AI told them he'd have a "serious problem" coming off the bench, hence they dropped all interest, so doubt he told Memphis any different. Iverson Q&A: Free agency was 'horrible' - NBA - Yahoo! Sports
the boy has mad skills and is so tough but sadly he just doesn't get it. He thinks last year was bad because he only averaged 17 points... points you score in a game doesn't tell half of what you are as a player. He thinks he's the same player he was 5 years ago and able to play 50 mins a night. he could be such a wonderful addition to a team as a 25 min a night backup but thats not him, and he really should just walk away from the game for his own mental health because he's never going to find what he wants at this point, and all he does is ruin his rep more and more.
Seriously, AI has three choices. He can either come off the bench until he proves he can start, retire, or go play over in Europe.
When was it decided that Iverson wasn't capable of starting? Especially in Memphis!!! Its like if you repeat something enough it becomes fact. Fair enough Denver were a better team with Billups but they improved after getting Iverson and he didn't cause any problems there, I hear a lot of revisionist history especially about his time there.
Iverson won't see these choices. He'll see... 1. Complain and whine. 2. Sit out...away from the team. 3. Maybe if we're lucky...retire.
All AI has to do is adpat to the game. Become a better team mate when he's on the floor. If he proves to be a better player than whose starting, then things will work themselves off. He's just coming off of an injury.
for a young team he's not a fit... the young players need time to grow and learn.... on a vet team ready to win a title.. they share the ball normally and the starting unit isn't going to want a player that has to have the ball in his hand 90 percent of the time to be effective... Thats why I am saying he needs to be a bench player at this point in his career if winning a ring is his goal... where he can play 20 mins a game when the teams starters/scorers have are on the bench and he can get all the shoots he wants. If his goal is to start and not worry about winning then he needs to find a team that isn't going ready to win now... and has no young talent at guard, not sure which team that is... teams were not beating down his door this summer, just because of what he wants.... He really could be a great addition to a team like the lakers or SA if he wanted to be a bench player and understood he's no longer 25. I wish him happyness in life, but I just don't see him finding it in the NBA at this point.
Who has the patience to watch AI jack up 35 shots a game to score 20 points? With Mayo, Z-BO, and Rudy there is not enough shots available.
I actually don't think AI's feelings are that rare among players...i just find it amazing at how much athletes can't keep their mouth shut about it. He should know at this point in his career that if he says anything it is going to get him in trouble. Is it really worth it to talk about it...I mean, A: Your not going to get more playing time for saying thi B: Everyone is gonna hate you for it.
Iverson's career is over. Finito. He's going out like a flaming kamikazee pilot. You know his agent is wiping the sweat off his brow and grateful that he got one more contract signed..
Yo Jay. Detroits deal for Iverson will prove to be the ticket back to the promised land before it's over. The distraction he provided was unpleasant but temporary (like you being here). He was a selfish ballhog who initially landed in an organization willing to stroke his self-preening azz for way too long. He eventually became the caricature he was playing. I agree that he should have retired last summer and it looked like 29 other GM's agreed with that prognosis. But the Grizz? Well, they're the Grizz......
