I LIKE that there are two capable players per position, it creates competition and gives to to Q flexibility and he can make substitutions more confidently and flexibility helps to adjust.

Also, is there a cure " grass is greener in other side" plague? It is epidemic here. Face it, there are no more that 4-5 teams equipped "perfectly", the rest of NBA is in between.

Stuck, Rip, Tay, CV are guaranteed to start, the center position is a toss-up right now between Wilcox, Kwame and even Wallace.

Gordon will see a lot of playing time mostly at the 2, but probably around 5 min. at the point also. Daye will back-up Prince, with Rip playing at the 3 a little bit when both Gordon and Stuckey/Bynum are on the floor.

Maxiell is the first option at PF behind CV, with Summers getting a few minutes also if he can play at the same level he did in Summer League.

Jerebko and Washington will probably not get any playing time this season.

Hahaha, Lee has started the infamous rotation thread!!!!! Deeeeeetroit-Bas-ket-baaaaaalll!!!!! Oh I'm ready now!:)

And Lee has also began his "The Coach is incompetent" Rant, his "Maxiel is a SF" rant, all that's left is for Lee to ordain one of the bench scrubs as the potential savior of the franchise and find a whipping boy!!!! Yes, the season is almost ready to begin.

Well....obviously he's waiting to find out which one of the bench scrubs gets the least minutes, and that will be his guy.

Whipping boy will be the player getting minutes in front of that guy.

This is like watching reruns of a bad TV show.

I know whats going to happen, and I really don't give a :censored:.

    rough mpg model

i dont really like this model, as it basically calls for an 11-man rotation which is not practical. 1 of the big men is definitely going to be left with a lot of DNP's, based on coach's decision. (i would like to see K. Brown packaged in a trade with Rip as an expiring contract [this is assuming that we cannot unload Maxiell instead])

    Stuckey - 30 (PG)
    Hamilton - 30 (SG)
    Prince - 30 (SF)
    Villanueva -30 (PF)
    Wilcox - 30 (C, PF)

    Gordon - 30 (PG, SG)
    Bynum - 6 (PG)
    Maxiell - 18 (PF, SF?)
    Brown - 12 (C)
    Wallace - 12 (C)

(12 min for rooks?) ( there are only SF minutes left under this model)

With roster as currently constructed, this is my guess.

4 guard rotation .. obviously, Gordon, Hamilton and Stuckey all could play 35MPG but are reduced to 30MPG, and Bynum should be good for 20 off the bench, but is reduced to a paltry 6MPG due to a clogged guard rotation. under this model, i'm assuming ben gordon would have to play 12 PG minutes because there are not enough SG minutes to go around, which makes me uncomfortable..

5 man rotation at PF and C.. 30MPG seems about right for Villanueva and Wilcox.. ~15ish for Brown, Wallace, Maxiell. it's unlikely that they will have a 5-big rotation, but who among these 3 stands out of as the key 3rd big? we all hope maxiell will be that guy, but...

PLEASE GOD just unload hamilton for SOME sort of decent big man to start next to villanueva, making Wilcox the 3rd big, Maxiell #4, and Wallace and Brown scrapping for a few MPG. this gives Gordon a starting spot and significant combo backup minutes for Bynum.

I wonder if there is a forum out there where some NBA fan is posting:

"PLEASE GOD just unload [INSERT UNWANTED BIG MAN] for SOME sort of decent guard that likes to curl off screens, shoot mid-range jumpers, play mediocre defense, and grieve."

Start: Stuckey, Rip, Tay, CV, Wilcox.

Bench: Gordon subs for both guard positions. Some rookie backs up Tay. No opinion formed on which one. Just as long as Tay has a backup. Wallace and JMAX round out the bench rotation.

    or

Start Stuckey and Tay in the backcourt, with JMAX, Ben Wallace, and CV forming the front line.

Bench is Gordon and Rip in the backcourt, a rookie at small forward, Wilcox at power forward, and Kwame at center.

    or

Start Rip and Gordon in the back court, with Tay, CV, and Wilcox on the front line.

The bench is Bynum, Stuckey, a rookie at small forward, Wallace and JMAX.

    or

Start Stuckey and a rookie in the backcourt, with Tay, Ben Wallace and JMAX up front.

Bench is Gordon, Rip, a rookie at small forward, CV, Wilcox.

I would appreciate any input on which rookies can fill some of the above slots.

And just for contrast, here is one that we could have used if Afflalo and Amir were not dumped to make room for Wilcox:

Start Gordon, Rip, Tay, CV, Kwame

Bench: Stuckey, Afflalo, Amir, JMAX, Ben Wallace.

Lee, I knew you wouldn't make it to opening tipoff without starting J-Max at small forward and putting Amir and Afflalo into the rotation!

Start: Bynum/ Rip/ Tay/ Wallace/ Kwame (our best defensive lineup)

Bench: Stuckey/ Gordon/ Rip (Daye)/ Villan/ Wilcox (our best offensive lineup)

The only problem is that our bench is pretty highly paid.

The Spin would make the argument that Joe has spared no expense to give the Pistons an effective bench, probably the best in the league.

Rip playing any small forward is bad news. Its how he got his groin injury last year that severely limited his effectiveness. Anyone who has any chance to get feedback to the Pistons, make sure you voice this concern. Especially since we have a rookie coach who probably won't know any better than to repeat last season's mistakes.

I'd list Summers over Daye at small forward. Summers at least has the NBA body for that position. Besides, I kind of like the idea of us playing a 6-11 shooting guard.

    So:

Start Gordon, Rip, Tay, CV, Wilcox. Sure, lots of holes in this unit. Little defense. No point guard at all. But hey, they can score if they can get the ball up the court. Bynum could play in cases where a point guard is needed to save the unit from embarrassment. Sitting Rip or Gordon. (So they either learn to handle the ball, or lose minutes.)

Then bench is Stuckey, Daye, Summers, Ben Wallace, Jason Maxiell. Here, you have no height in the front line to speak of, but the guards are 6-5 and 6-11 to compensate some. The front line would be highly active and strong on defense. Ben Wallace as usual would be a drag on the offense, but the other four guys around him can score well enough. All four would be encouraged to take close in shots, relying on two very good offensive rebounders in Ben Wallace and Jason Maxiell to clean up the misses. (and the other three guys out there can rebound well enough too) If the other team packs it in too tight, both Daye and Summers can nail threes. Also if the opposing front line just has too much size, Kwame gets to play.

I think Kwame will get his minutes irregardless of the opponent.

Why? Kwame has his attributes. Tall and quick for his size. But he has bad hands so does not contribute to the offense that well. Can't shoot a lick. If he is used as a defensive specialist, he can be valuable. But as a constant rotation player, just in general a liability.

Further, if you think Kwame is going to be a regular rotation player - who do you suppose is not playing? Ben Wallace, Jason Maxiell, and Charlie Villanueva are ahead of him for sure in overall talent on the front line, while most likely Wilcox will also be seen as a much more overall needed player out there.

I see Maxiel as the 5th big off the bench right now.

I think Kwame is planned as the starting Center but if Ben Wallace totally outplays him there will have to be a change, Ben can not start so Wilcox becomes the starter with Kwame moved all the way down to third Center (very few mins.)

Rip has been promised the starting SG spot but what if Wil Bynum proves to be a much better PG than Ben Gordon, no more 3 guard rotation and Bynum-Gordon is a terribly small combination to play extended mins. Stuckey-Gordon and Bynum-Hamilton is a lot more balanced in size on defense, but Hamilton off the bench is an obvious problem.

Tay's backup is totally up in the air, one of the rookies could earn it, but if none of them are ready either Rip or Maxiell will play out of their natural position until one of the rookies grows into it.

I hope the coaches are flexible enough to throw out their plans and let players earn positions, we are probably a year away from a set rotation.
