Sorry for yet another rumor thread... Mike Valenti of 97.1 believes, based on "phone calls" he received today, that the Hornets are going to trade Tyson Chandler for Maxiell and Kwame.
HornetsReport.com | Forums - Pistons interested in Chandler? They are talking about it on the Hornets' board.
I will never forget back in 08 when Jmax blocked that lob attempt by Chandler. It's funny how they may be traded for each other. Best block ever!
This would be sweet! Chandler would be an excellent defensive upgrade. Which will be needed with Stuck and Gordon allowing people to waltz down the lane. Would need to hold onto Dice as a back-up. Stuck/Bynum Hamilton/Gordon Prince/Daye Vanilla/Summers Chandler/Dice That line-up could make some noise.
If Chandler was traded he would have a chip on his shoulder and would play harder. Make this happen, Joe.
No brainer. If we do this, then I'd be down with getting Boozer. I just don't want Boozer as our C. Stuck/Bynum Gordon/ Afflalo Prince/ Daye-Sharpe-Summers-Jebenko Boozer/ Villeneuva Chandler/ Dyess How about that? Not a bad 2nd unit either. And a half way decent defense still with a shot blocker backing our porous perimeter.
They actually did agree to trade Chandler last season, to Oklahoma City, but the deal was voided because he failed the physical.
In the words of Tone Loc: Let's do it and then as some one else said, add Dice and then the major pieces are in place.
And who did they trade him for again.......Chris Wilcox's expiring contract, why, because they knew with Chandlers contract they were going to be around $7M above the Lux Cap this season. New Orl's will move Chandler to get UNDER THE LUX CAP - Period, that franchise absolutely can not afford a $78M payroll this season and write a $7M check to the NBA too!
I'd do it if we could find a way to keep KB Toys behind Chandler.... ...the Maxiell part, that is....
John Hollinger said this makes sense because only teams under the cap / trade exceptions can give OKC the cap relief they NEED this year. Expiring deals now are worthless now because they still count against this coming seasons cap. We are 4-5 million under the cap so can offer OKC some cap relief. He said this exact trade could get them close enough that they could shed another 1-2 million closer to the trade deadline.
I'm confused how this is supposed to work out salary-wise. Can we absorb the extra salary because we are under the cap? The ESPN trade machine doesn't have updated rosters, so it's not accurate.
OK here we go:we have $4M left. Tyson makes $11,850,000 this season, Max makes $5,000,000, so we're $6,500,000 away from making that happen in a straight up swap. But since we have $4M in our pocket right now, we're actually only off by $2.5M, if we could clear that last $2.5 it'd be a done deal and New Orl's clears $6.5M of their payroll.
Now I'm confused because I am not sure if we are talking about a NOH trade with Chandler or a trade with the OKC Thunder?
