Boozer is signed for 12.6 mil next year while Hamilton is slated to make 11.6. Are they looking for a huge salary dump? Now that Boozer is signed; don't the salaries have to match in a trade?

Don't they have to be within 25%?

I think it has be within 25% if both teams are over the cap. In the trade we're talking about, the restriction for Utah is that they can't receive more than Boozer's salary + 25% in return for him, but since Rip makes less than he does, it would be doable.

Don't like the Rip for Boozer trade. Villenueva fills that role. Trade Rip for Chandler, then be ready to send a package of two players/draft pick to Toronto mid-season when they start to get worried about Bosh.

Chandler makes $2M more than Tay.

So the Boozer for Max deal wouldn't work. I think now that they have them signed they can only get cap relief by trading for an expiring player?

I think it would have worked if we had kept Oberto's contract. Why did we release him? We needed that salary number to make a trade work!!

Unless its Chris Bosh, I want Rip for an expiring deal so we can at least try to make a run at Bosh in 2010.

The rule is this: if you are OVER the soft cap ($59M) then you can take back up to 125% of what ever you sent out; ex. Send out $10M, then the incoming contract can not exceed $12.5M, but it can be as small as $0.00, that's how the Clips got Camby for a 2nd rd pick last summer.
If you can Absorb the incoming salaries and stay under the cap then that rule is thrown out the window.

Right now the only way we can get Boozer is if we can save them $6-$8 million next season. That's why we need to trade Rip or Tayshaun to a team with enough cap space (Toronto/OKC/Port/Mem) to absorb it altogether so we can basically "DUMP" their salaries, then we can probably get Boozer for a either Maxiel (saves Utah $7.3 Million THIS SEASON- enough to pay Millsap) or a 2nd rd pick (Saves them Boozers WHOLE Contract)

Why are we so hooked on Boozer? I'd rather see a trade for Chandler to address our 5 spot and not another 4.

First of all, I'd rather have Chandler as well. Second, Rip for Boozer trade is not doable due to Utah's contracts.

OK, I'll give you that, but NO is in the same Predicament Utah is in, they need FINANCIAL RELIEF, we don't have a contract that can provide that, save Jason Maxiel.

Boozer's contract expires next summer giving us cap space to pursue more "desirable" players. Chandler has a player option to pick up a nice salary in '10-11. But if Chandler's really the guy we want, then I see your point.

Because he's a really good player and we need talent not projects, potential, or upside.

Other than that, it's the fun of ticking off people:stirthepot: who don't want Boozer...
