Thanks for the info, Roscoe. Maybe the guy is closer than we all thought. If we could bring someone like that in next season, he should be able to make impact.
I hope we put him in the D League so he can possibly get some NBA 'burn' at times and it should help get him used to little details like "English" and "Jive" and fried foods, etc, etc, etc. He looks pretty 'ready to go' if you ask me, I mean we aren't looking for Oscar Robertson we are looking for a raw freaky (or perhpas freakishly raw) Theo Ratliff type project.
I'd rather have a raw guy with potential at the end of the bench than Dupree (as much as I like him).
I concur. I know I'm treading into Dark(o) territory here, but even having him practice against our legit and versatile bigs in practice wouldn't be all bad for him. Thinking Sheed (I hope we keep him unless we get an insane deal) could LEARN HIM a thing or two (hundred).
Yep. Splitting the year between the Stones and Sioux Falls wouldn't be all bad. What better guy than Sheed to teach him how to utilize uber long arms and an apparently soft jumper?
It's rare for a player to play more than 2 seasons in the NBDL. Usually by that time they are established, or on their way out of the league. Since Acker is technically under contract to a Greek team, they may not want their star guard playing in a scrimmage league.
That means that Joe or someone else from Pistons will have to go over to Greece to watch the guy play. They'd have to take a closer look to see if he could help next season.
Man I can't wait to see these guys... Samb and Amir that is. I've seen enough of Acker to know what he brings to the table.
Yeah, just kinda dismissive. It's ok. I have some players I like, and I will hug them pretty hard, but at the end of the day, I like whoever plays and plays well, and generally dislike whoever plays poorly, so it all comes out in the wash.
I saw him play quite a bit for the stones and in the summer league before that, and he's old enough that he's not going to improve that much... compared to the samb's and amir's of the world. I really like what Acker can bring I just share a lot of the concerns some scouts seem to have. (Passion, lateral quickness, explosion). I see a lot of Steve Smith and Allan Houston in his game.
Acker really reminds me of a less talented Derrick Anderson. I think that he'll probably be a decent reserve in the L, but I'm not drooling over him. Still, you could do a lot worse than have him coming off of your bench.
