Saw Samb In The Phoenix Pistons Game From Vegas.. I Thought He Looked Pretty Good. What About Keeping Him Instead Of Sending Him Overseas. He Could Adjust To The U.s. Faster, Fatten Up, And Perhaps Play For Us Sooner.

I don't think he's ready to hold low position against stronger NBA players (big difference from SL talent)... this also effects our two roster spots available for D-League..

The good news is that if he can gain 20 lbs (putting him close to 240) the only thing he has to do is catch and shoot... nobody's gonna block his shot.
On defense he'll become our Darko stopper :heh:

I have 2 SL games from last year to look at and compare against Cheik. My initial thoughts is that Cheik was more active but more out of control.
Two thoughts: Darko >> Samb and 6'11" bigs with great mobility are not that rare anymore.

Darko Is Bigger Than Samb But Also Cost More And Was A Heavy Drinker. Darko Was Also A Malcontent With A Lot Of Excuses. And As Far As The D League, We Didn't Take Advantage Of It Enough Last Year. We Can Have Two Players There At A Time To Get Playing Experience. I Don't Think It Has To Be The Same Two Players All Season. Does Anyone Know?

Oh, bballjay is gunna love posting to you.

No more than 2 players at a time from the 15 man NBA roster.

The same player can be sent down no more TWICE in a season. So down, up, down, up.

Players must be in their first or second NBA season to be eligible for D-League tour of duty.

They earn their NBA salary while playing in the minor league.

I don't know... if we had a roster spot for him, it might be a good idea to bring him up here.

    1. He'd benefit from being in the US, without having to adjust to on the court action, he could just adjust to "being in the US".

    2. He'd be learning the US game in practice.

    3. He'd be be eating fattening US food, and working with the Pistons conditioning coaches.

    4. If he was at the end of the bench, he might play like 50 minutes the entire season anyway. So it's not like his weaknesses would really hurt us.

I think the entire situtation would benefit him, and make it easier for him to move into the 2007-2008 season with the possibility of actually contributing.

    Make sense to you guys?

It does make some sense. Perhaps you leave Acker up with the real club and send Amir & Cheikh down to the NBDL. If Acker ain't getting any PT, you could swap AA with AJ or CS for a few weeks.

This all hinges upon Joe D not signing anyone else or making a trade...

Not enough. We're told he's only played a year or two of organized ball. He HAS to play.

Playing time over the next few years is way more important to him than adding bulk or even NBA coaching for that matter. If he's not playing ball the next couple years, then his weight doesn't matter - 'cause he won't be ready to contribute in the NBA.

Darko didn't get any better by being on the roster and not playing. Samb could play one more year in Europe, and then two more in D-league before he's ready to have any impact with the big boys. Let's use our D-league spots judiciously.

I don't know if he would go back to the same club in Spain or not, but if my memory serves me right, that club fields teams at various levels of competition. Last year he played in Divison II.

If the opportunity to play in Division I is there, along with possibly an opportunity to participate in the Euroleague tournament, you have to think that he would get a lot of seasoning.

I'd like to see Amir and Will Blalock on the NBDL this year, with Maxiell and Acker involved on the fringe of the playing rotation.

I also don't know how Samb is going to bulk up if they keep him holed up in the same place where he grew into his 195 lb. frame thus far.

Cheikh Samb makes Mikki Moore look like the Ultimate Warrior, the plan for next year should be to have Samb buddy up with J-Max touring the restaurants of the U.S. in between his Glucose IV administrations and his daily B-12 shots.

    * The real B-12...not Palmeiro's "B-12".*

The D League Pt Could Be Divided Between Will, Samb, Amir And Acker If Need Be. But If We Get A Chance To Get Grant Hill Later On, Should We Keep A Roster Spot Open And Send The Big Chick Chick Back To Europe?

    Billups, hunter, blalock
    Rip, Murray, acker
    Tay, Delfino, Amir
    Sheed, Dyess, Maxiel
    Davis, Nazr. Samb

I suppose it is possible. But i think micro said it right when he said why use up a roster spot? Look at Acker. He greatly benefitted from his experience but the question remains...can he play at the NBA level. No amount of NBDL action will ever answer that. We toss people down there because theres not enough room in the big leagues. So it doesn't matter where Samb plays. Nobody is going to know how he fares against NBA players until he plays an NBA game. If we want to know what we got, we have to give them room.
