Should Sheed stop shooting 3's? He does not seem to be making them anyway. And when he does make them he seems to live out there.

Do you like having the added dimension of a 3-pt shooting Center or should he stay in the post where Centers typically do?

He should be attempting 3's only against man defense. He has too much value in the post to be bombing away.

Sheed don't want to get his bod banged around every night so on the outside he will stay.

Anyone who has played the game knows that it can get pretty rough under the basket.

    :hoops:

He needs to find a balance between post play and shooting 3-pointers. 3-pointers help to stretch the defense. If defenders know someone is not an outside threat they'll pack the paint and make it more difficult to play in the post.

Both shooting percent and 3s percent are low this season. 41% shooting and 34% from 3 point land......Maybe he should go for more assists............:)

He should limit his 3's to the point where he is hitting in the high 30%'s. IOW, he should limit himself to the easier attempts.

He's not going to shoot in the high 30%s. The more 3's he takes, though, the higher his percentage will be. Look at the numbers:

    year min/att pct
    02-03 8.7 35.8
    03-04 9.8 31.7
    04-05 11.4 31.8
    05-06 6.4 35.7
    06-07 8.2 35.1
    07-08 8.3 34.4

In his last year at Portland, Sheed was attempting a three every 8.7 minutes and was making 35.8% of them.

In the LB years, the attempts were less frequent and the conversion rate was 31.8%.

Under Saunders, he's attempting a three on average about once per 8 minutes. He is making about 35%.

    At 34.4%, Sheed currently ranks 85th in the NBA. Hamilton ranks 7th (46%), Billups 24th (40.7%), Prince 28th (40%), and Hayes ranks 73rd (35.9%).

Sheed ranks 43rd in most 3-point attempts (157).

I know it limits his effectiveness somewhat, but he needs to find a sweet spot where the percentage would be higher. In other words catching and shooting 2+ feet behind the three point line for a 33 year old gets harder as the season wears on. He has never been good shooting that three from the corner either...maybe he thinks it's to close:nerd2:.

He also needs to help out more on the inside to get those offensive boards and increase our point production vs certain teams who have weak post men...

Therein lies the problem. He's the 85th best shooter and he takes the 43rd most shots.

I'd rather just tell CB, Rip, and Tay to launch a few more and keep Sheed down low.

Granted, I don't really care about the regular season. But in a playoff scenario, I want Sheed in position to rebound and score from the post. If his man is playing great help D and clogging the paint, then let Sheed float out and try to force his man to follow him.

It could be the first bang that knocks his teeth lose. Cutting his minutes may not help.

Maybe all of our players should wear face masks.

40% is 24th best in the league? The league has gotten better.
We probably need a min-over/under cut. Like say 125 attempts

I don't have a problem with the 3's really, but wtf happened to all those sweet 12-20 footers he was burying the last few years especially around the baselines.

Remember him berating Haslem with the "You can't check me" after hitting J after J after J flaring off downscreens for Rip in 05' ???

His age is really starting to show when he gets the ball around the rack, lots of weird flailing finesse stuff and just straight fumbling the ball away when he used to crush it in 04' and 05'.
