Shock win game 1 by beating the Mercury at the FT line and in the paint.>>> WITHOUT Cheryl Ford!! They out boarded the mercs 48-30

Paul Westhead's team did what his teams to best >catch and shoot, but it wasn't enough as rough & tough Cappy Pondexter missed 10 shots in the first half and Diana Taurasi sat out most of the game in foul trouble. I didn't count but they must have launched 30 three pointers....

We may need to change this thread to "Shock go for three" or "Shock taking a crack at a Back-to-Back" :)

Its good to see the Shock winning. Wonder what the Pistons are going to think when that championship drive keeps changing names and they are not the ones doing it.

It means Laimbs will have some leverage over Flip when Davison starts analyzing where he is getting wins, banners, trophy's and rings...

Laimbeer doesn't get the Piston's head coaching job. He does get a raise though for doing well. Actually, he may be better at player procurement. Any GM openings out there..............

Funny somebody over at DET-News site (Fleabag) mentioned that ESPN was all over or in Diana Taurasi's jock strap/draws or whatever :)and it did seem that way since her name was mentioned more than anybody else even though she rode the pine for most of the game.

But when I watch the ESPN highlights this morning, same old thing. If my memory serves correct, the Shock won the game right? There were 5 highlights, one of a Kara Braxton putback, one Diana Taurasi three pointer and 3 Taurasi fouls:confused:. what gives here? I know she spent some time at UCONN which is in the same neighborhood of ESPN's home office, but we never hear Swin or Rip two other UC Huskies getting this much hype on ESPN. She must already be under contract to ESPN for the offseason or when she retires..

I was getting mad at the refs watching the last Shock game. Now I know that I have a problem.

I have lost all faith in the ESPN website. Does not help that any decent looking article is in the paid area.

Maybe they will sweep and be done with it. Best of 5 here so winning the 1st game was huge.

    Good article.

I'm more convinced than ever Laimbeer can make it work in the men's league...but he'll need Rickey Mahorn at his side or they won't put up with him.

Hot Shock win like Bad Boys

The Shock remind me of the 2005 pistons. I'd rather watch woeful shooting and domination on the glass than decent shooting and weak rebounding because there is a sense of despair that all those 2nd chance points will add up and if you cool off, it will be curtains for you.

Laimbeer failed to adjust in game 2. He tried to go inside and the Westhead countered with all arms. (and slap fouls that they got away with). The Shock didn't put enough hands in faces the three point shooters and when they did, the Mercury still hit them....16 out of 44 to be exact to the Shock's 3 of 20. Don't know if either team will have the same percentages in game 3, but it may be over for the Shock since they have not won on the road during these playoffs.

Tweety Nolan was cold and Katie Smith didn't shoot....now that I think about it, everybody was cold... I am wondering if they should sit Cheryl Ford again as she probably took the Shock out of their offense as they were trying to feed her in the middle.

I missed the first 10 minutes of the second half and when I got back it was virtually over.

Great game tonight. There was a stretch from about the 2:15 mark of the 3rd quarter where both teams combined to make 8 shots in a row, including some really tough ones. The intensity was right up there with college ball.

And Bill Laimbeer was all over everybody. If you are doubting his coaching ability, watch some of these games. One thing that is obvious is that he is making his team play harder than they would for Flip.

    Great win by the Shock!

I am totally impressed with the level of play in the WNBA.

Fantastic games from Katie Smith, Deanna Nolan and Pierson.

I hope they can avoid a repeat of Game 2 in Game 4. Don't give this team any more confidence. I might buy a Shock jersey if they win it all.

I watched most of the 2nd half. It the most interested I have been in a WNBA game. The announcing was very impressive, they actually talked about the game. What a novel idea. No half screen cutaways to interview whatever shmuck was in the audience, they actually gave credit to someone when they scored rather than finishing their thoughts about a players personal whatever that had nothing to do about the game.

Good job ESPN. Now carry that over to the NBA and please alert CBS and TNT.
