Geno is a perfect example of how someone can be a great coach but a horrible analyst. Very sad indeed.
The Shock are sort of running into the same problems as the Pistons ran into back in '04-05. They play a very rough, physical, defensive style of basketball. The refs do not reward that. Also, if you get a sensitive crew, the foul differential can make the game unwinnable.
Serious question. Some of those calls, and the tightness of the games have me wondering... What are the Vegas lines on this, particularly the over under?
I have a crush on that Miller girl of the Merc. Mercs go down hard in rubber game 90-84. No pun intended. SHOCKING !!!!
The offensive foul called on Cheryl Ford with about 1:30 left in the game was horrible. She was trying to establish a post presence and she didn't even have the ball. Also, the call wasn't for bumping to create space, but for holding her arm out as the defender was trying to cheat around her. With all the contact in that game, the call was way out of proportion. And at the time, the Shock had a 1 point lead. Of course, the Merc hit some clutch shots after that.
Some more thoughts while I have a break here: I remember looking at the haltime stats and both teams had 9 fouls called on them> In the second half the Mercury had six fouls called on them and the Shock 10, including that bogus one on Cheryl Ford in the last minute and half. Not to say that it cost them the game, but it certainly thru off Ford's concentration as the next time down the floor wher she was looking the other way when Pierson fed her a pass. The Shock had 25 fouls called on them in game three as the refs tried their best to keep the Mercury in the game despite their bad shooting. More fouls were called against the Mercury in games 1 & 2 so hopefully the palace court will give the Shock the benefit of the doubt Sunday. Stat wise, the Shock have out played the Mercury in every game except the game 2 blowout. They should win on Sunday even without Ford as long as Nolan is not tentative and drives to the hoop.. She can neutralize both Taurasi and Cappie by getting them in foul trouble as merc have no bench.
There should be a no call on that Ford's play. They should just let them play. It's the final minute of the game. Why call it at that time? Further more, Bill should put the ball in Nolan's hand the last 2 minutes of the game instead of putting the ball inside and causes all this turnovers. We have 2 turnovers in the last 2 minutes of the game. Could have prevented it. Now we have to play another game to win this, which WE WILL!!! GO SHOCK!!!
With how great Pierson has been playing this season it does not seem like they miss Ford as much as they would have. That was golden opportunity to close it out. I hope it does not come back to haunt them.
hmmmmmm, Lions home opener against the Vikings or final game of the WNBA with the Shock at home. Sorry, girls lose.
I have to watch the ladies too as the Shock game is televised here on free TV and the Lions game isn't It's win or go home sad for the Shock!! For the Lions it's win or try again next week. GO Shock....Go LIons
It looks like Laimbeer really grew to dislike Swin Cash. Too bad he had to disrespect her in her final game at the Palace: MERCURY 108, SHOCK 92: DREW SHARP: Cash, face of Shock basketball, hints she may not be back next year
I remember when Cash was the 1st option...........Seems like she's been 4th or 5th lately............
Ladies played well. Don't know if Laimbeer helped his resume. Looks like Flip Saunders is safe from his takeover.
