Sheed is great, but to say Charlie won't improve is just ignorant. I believe he can be better than Sheed, he's a special player.

But my point is when we traded for hm we knew exactly what he was and wasn't. Joe even stated he (Sheed) wasn't comfortable playing a specific role and the reason he was going to be so good here is b/c he was never going to be expected to. He was a player on a team. And when things got rough, people expected him to step up and become the post version of Tim Duncan which was never who he was. Sheed did post up throughout his tenure as the Pistons. He wasn't going to do it every time down the floor and assume that role and part of it is because our guards LOVE the ball. His 3 point shooting actually helped us tremendously so i'm not seeing the big knock on the way his game was here.

One word defense/defensive potential. I said it was unrealistic but that's my gut feeling on CV. I don't think a majority of posters hefe see him as a starter on a title team (although i could be wrong)

Yes and we knew that and did not bring him in to be that. He wasn't the piece. He wasn't a max player, he wasn't dubbed the star or savior of the franchise.

The Horry play sucks yes, but who was responsible for us winning game 6? There are tons of plays you can't point to in that series (Tay on Duncan makes me feel just as awful, etc.) But that makes him responsible for on more championship and still doesn't give him blame for our entire run.

It's hard for me to be satisfied when there were potentially much better ways to spend the money on players who were far closer to being cornerstones/franchise players.

What you're capable of does not make you a superstar.

    LOL and thank you.

Sheed has always been externally motivated (or unmotivated).
When things were good under L.B. - Sheed believed and he played his ass off.

How is it ignorant? It's just an opinion. Everyone's entitled, besides, no one can see the future and guarantee that he will improve. Just a few years ago, everyone swore 2012 would be going bonkers on opponents...now he's just going to Milwaukee.

No need for calling someones opinion ignorant.

CV was the 7th pick in the draft and is only 3 years in at age 24. Unless he is a total lazyblank or is completely unmotivated then I would expect that he is going to improve.

Time to let go of the carcus of 04 - at least whats left of it. I think we are very lucky to get these 2 players and they are the 1st pieces of the next championship team - hopefully a team that can win more than 1.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if another team signs Oberto for, say, $1 million.... doesn't that take $1 million away from what we are on the hook to pay him?

I think (think) it is on top of what they owe him. They owe him the guaranteed portion of his contract.

But I'm fairly certain if another team pays him a portion of what he is guaranteed it is subtracted from what we owe him.

I agree. I would rather have seen David Lee or Milsap signed. We need someone who will crash the boards and not float around the 3 pt line. It seems like we are getting away from defense and going for a run and gun team which is ok if the Pistons played in the West.

Look at Orlando. Except for Howard, they don't play much defense.

Yeah, and if they had, they would have spanked the Lakers.

Our primary need for sometime now has been SCORE THE DAMN BALL!!!! Defense wins championships, offense wins games, you gotta win games to even be eligible to win a championship, last year we couldn't even win games.

I mean call me crazy but if we can nab a 4th seed and get past the 1st rd with Branew Rasta, with an avg age of about 25, I say Hip Hip Hoo-RAY!!!!

That's true. But what I mean is that team without great defense but premium offense can still make some significant noise.
On the other hand, defense wins championships.

I get you there...I just wish teams with that much firepower would put a similar effort into their D...

Of course. However, playing D is not fun and it does require effort and reward is not as obvious as hitting a big 3 or a dunk. Although a big stop is just as good as we've learned with Pistons.

How did the Magic end up with the #1 rated defensive efficiency this year, then?

DHo out-rebounded and out-blocked the competition by fairly wide margins.

You don't end up with those type of defensive numbers by having only one good defensive player. You need to have a team that is committed to playing defense, you need to have a sound defensive strategy. Howard is the key to it all, but there are other factors as well.
