So what's SVG gonna do? (it's official now, btw)

Why? Smith and Jennings are considered negative assets, league wide. It'd be acquiring Anderson and ridding ourselves of two huge mistakes for Greg Monroe. I like. But I like McDermott more, I think.

    smh....
Nobody is taking on Jennings and Smith. Nobody is giving up assets in a sign and trade to overpay Greg Monroe. That being said...I'd empty the cupboard in a heart beat and start anew the summer of 2015. My free agent targets: Kawhi Leonard and Chandler Parson's (or Kevin Love).

This summer is NOT a summer to spend. Be patient and if we can move either Smith and/or Jennings, we'll have money to spend NEXT SUMMER that has a much better free agent class, when you can go after Leonard, Parsons and Love. Right now we need to focus on getting an excellent pick in the draft, that is....IF we have a pick in the draft.....THANKS JOE!

Max dollars, SVG, or not. I don't think we have much chance at luring Love (given the 'Big 3'-superstar/glamorous city opportunities he'll have). Nor do I think we'll have much chance at luring Leonard (given how great it must be to play in SA/to be the 'future' of that great organization). If Chandler Parson's the third name.. I'm not interested enough to waste a season waiting.

Like I said. Smith and Jennings don't need to be moved to afford Lowry and Ariza (I'd just prefer for them to be). RFA Monroe for Doug McDermott or Ryan Anderson is a bargain for the team getting him.

Post Pops/Duncan, the Spurs will be a bottom dweller for a while. There is no incentive for Leonard to stick around there. He can be had for draft picks and cap relief when San Antonio finally hits the reset button. Parsons is a great target as well. Houston won't be able to keep him, and he'll get paid. He's a damn good player too.

I'm just baffled at how little Monroe is valued. I hope we keep him. Our front court is not the problem.

Smith and Jennings are considered negative assets Pistonsforum-wide. We don't know what the rest of the actual people who work in the league think.

Irregardless, Smith, Jennings and Monroe are very good basketball players.

Monroe's a backup center in SVG's 4 out / 1 in offense. Those are just the breaks. It's him or Drummond. I'm hoping his league-wide value is higher than it is around here.

Regarding Leonard. I don't see Pop or Bufford retiring anytime soon. If Pop does, he's got plenty of HC'ing assistants spread across the league (as does Bufford) that I'm sure would love returning to the SA culture.. it's kind of like the Illitch/Red Wings of the NBA. Parker is still relatively young (and Mills is a great young backup). Green and Belinelli are both solid young wings. Splitter's become a solid young big man. I don't think it'll be that hard for them to sell Leonard on the idea of being the face of the next generation, and promising to pair him with a solid new big. They've made the playoffs something crazy like 23 of the last 24 seasons -- and the one season they didn't was a strategic tank to get Duncan. Hell, thinking about that now, if I'm Kevin Love I'd be looking to sign in SA.

Is Parsons THAT much better than Ariza?

Easy CJ. One of them is a very good BASKETBALL player. Two of them are very talented and expensive ones.

    Re-posting this old gem:

Alright. So, here's the top-50 blueadams ranked players in the league. METHODOLOGY. I used six statistics, WAR/RPM, EWA/PER and WS/WS-48. I found the top-50 ranking players in each of the six categories. I found each of those players rankings in the other five categories. And I averaged out all six rankings for a final, composite ranking.

So, the formula is: WAR(r=rank)+EWA(r)+WS(r)+RPM(r)+PER(r)+WS/48(r) / 6 = blueadams rank.

I also added some other things to the listing.

*Name, Age, Position(s) (WAR(r)/EWA(r)/WS(r))-Avg.(of those 3), (RPM(r)/PER(r)/WS-48(r))-Avg.(of those 3) ~ Avg.(of all 6, i.e. 'blueadams ranking'), Grantland Trade-Value Rank (top 83 ranked), years remaining on contract-free agent status (*ESPN Insider projected salary for top-30 FA's, otherwise expiring or option salary is listed)..........rank among the top-50 3-pt shooters in the league, if applicable.

Disclaimer of so-so importance. Greg Monroe's composite ranking is 69. I only wrote down the top-50 in each of the six categories, to start off. If someone was ranked 68th in all six categories, for instance, he'd be ranked ahead of Greg Monroe and I wouldn't have included him.

It's pretty unlikely that such a player would exist. And I certainly didn't notice anyone consistently in the top-100 or so of the categories who's name I hadn't put down for at least one elsewhere. But I guess it is possible that I could have missed someone, however unlikely, so I thought that I'd at least mention it.

If Dragic can be had for Monroe--that's a coup.

Lowry would be such an incredible bargain of a signing--at almost any non-max price--I can't emphasize that enough.
    I. Thomas (from SAC) is getting no love and would be a steal as well.
    P. Mills could be a steal.

Gortat would be a nice backup big to Monroe, if feasible.

If Miami splits up.. I wonder if Bosh might be available to us?

SVG probably knows already: somebody is going to offer the max contract( ok, maybe not max but 15+ mil per year) and...that's it.

Why can't SVG just sign Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu if he wants to re-create the Magic team? There's no need to trade guys.

First off, where did you get these statistics? Your WAR rankings don't match up with ESPN's site, your WS rankings don't match up with basketball-reference.com's nor hoopdata's sites, and nba.com, Yahoo, 82games.com, and CBS sports don't use any of those. You have to include your source or your data means nothing.

Secondly, whoever is 8th in WAR is missing. I'm assuming that this is Iguodala, because on ESPN he's 10th in WAR and 3rd in RPM but he doesn't crack your top 50 overall.

Thirdly, why didn't you just copy/paste every player into Excel (or Google docs), use the sort function, and rank each player accordingly? That way you wouldn't need your disclaimer about not including players that are marginally in the 50th range, this whole exercise would have gone faster, and now we (okay, I...) would have less to criticize you about!

But thank you for all this work, blue. I know it must have taken you a great deal of time. Your passion for this team runs deep.

I seriously doubt there's any truth in that at all. There's loads of rumors going on right now about SVG loving Monroe. Reports said he even gave Monroe a call the night he was hired.
