Uruguay - France was so boring it made baseball look enjoyable. Games like this reminds me why I changed from a soccer maniac watching all the games in all the big leagues for around 15 years and then suddenly stopped. This sport just sucks. I haven't missed a game in the european and world championships since 94 (for real) but I'm not gonna watch S. Korea - Greece tomorrow.

The ref in that game was terrible. Several inconsistent calls. Way too quick with the yellow cards sometimes, and sometimes way too lenient. He was almost like a rec-league ref.

The teams also seemed reluctant to actually take shots. What the hell?

I loves RSA's second half hustle play that made them looked like there were 15 yellow shirted players on the field and Maxican were lucky to tie this game because they played liked they ran out of gas at the stretch. Go African teams. SK is leading 1-0 till now and I ain't going to watch USA-Eng it's so late at night.

Since I haven't followed it as closely this time I don't know how they do in this championship but the refereeing has been poor in many earlier ones since they have brought refs from all over the world instead of using the 30 best (which probably would mean alteast 29 europeans).

USA ties England. That's almost like a victory for the USA right? First World Cup goal outside the USA in what? 50 years? That English goaltender is gonna get his butt kicked after letting in such an ugly goal.

Hey, isn't England kinda like Cannuckia? :gun1:

That is like a victory. For those who don't know how the system works, everyone is divided into groups of four. You play each team in your group once. If you win, you get 3 points. If you tie, you get one point. After group play, the two teams with the highest point totals advance to the elimination rounds. The US is in group C with England, Algeria and Slovenia. Algeria and Slovenia are both considered weaker teams. So for the US to tie the best team in the group (England) instead of losing to them is very much to our advantage. Now let's just not let our guard down against Slovenia next week. We are an up-and-coming team in world soccer, but not a legitimately "great" team yet.

    South Korea - Greece 2-0
    Argentina - Nigeria 1-0
    USA - England 1-1

South Korea seems to be playing with a lot of confidence. Greece forgot they had a game today.

I only saw highlights of the Argentina-Nigeria game, but the radio announcers were very much down on Argentina's defense. They have a prolific offense but struggled to contain Nigeria's counter-attacks. Nigeria's goalkeeper was money. Some very nice saves from him.

    USA! USA! USA! :)

a kind of ugly game (U.S. v. England), but super intense considering how much hype led up to it, and the fact that we got a draw. Leave it to Dempsey to somehow sneak a ball through. It was totally Green's fault, but Dempsey is known for strange moments. Jozy had some good moments, and Gooch was solid. But by far, the man of the match was Tim Howard. This will stand as one of the best performances in goal for the whole tournament.

    Germans spanked the Aussies 4-0.

Red cards in every game today.

Ghana became the first African nation to win in the World Cup in Africa. Serbia played fantastic defense and it looked like this was gonna end 0-0, but the Serbian defender's boneheaded play resulted in a penalty kick and Ghana won 1-0. I may be wrong, but I think that was the first goal Ghana scored in a World Cup.

Own goal by Denmark to give Holland a 1-0 advantage. A Danish defender headed a volley that then bounced off his own player and into the goal. The goalie had no chance. :frusty:

And Holland just scored to make it 2-0 with only minutes left.

Next up, Japan v Cameroon and then Italy - Paraguay later.

I didn't realize how much into soccer you were. Does Brigham Young field a team? What country are they located in? :stirthepot::MusicBigGrin:

You're posting on a website devoted primarily to NBA basketball and saying that soccer is a sissy sport?

We're talking about a sport where this is pretty much illegal contact:

    CJ,

Are you actually implying that staring at King Lebron :king: in an intimidating manner should NOT be a foul?? I'm beginning to wonder if you are really a good person?:sherlock:

All hail the NBA super stars! :hail::hail::hail:

Dwight Howard is in a lower officiating tier than His Majesty. Of course my comments weren't referring to King James, and if in any way I implied that He should be getting fewer calls, I sincerely apologize to Sir Lebron, the city of Cleveland and environs, and David Stern.
