I wouldn't count on it. I don't think he is worth it.
He is in some places. I kind of think the economy aspect might not play out as expected.
There is the injury factor to mitigate his recent playoff failure. Teams may see a veteran big man with a 3-point stroke and solid defense. Think of Sheed next to Dwight Howard.
I guess 8 million does seem high. McClonsky is going to be pissed if he has to write a summer article about this.
How the economy plays out doesn't matter. If only Orlando could give him $8 million in free agency.
Do you think David Stern will pretend there is no salary cap so Sheed can get his $? I can see a sign and trade. But the teams with cap space, are not attractive destinations except Atlanta, which has more bigs than they know what to do with, and no PG next season.
Is Turkoglu going to opt out of his option?
It is extremely doubtful that Sheed gets 8 million. Some may use a MLE and perhaps JD's best option is a S&T. I would take the Turk. In an up tempo game (which is where this club has to go), he handles the ball well and his range is broad.
Sign and trade could be likely and if Sheed only cares about the 8 million then it doesn't matter where he goes. I could see the Jazz potentially offering him that if Boozer walks to have a three bigs in; Sheed/Memo/Milsap. Also if Hedo goes, the Magic will make an offer in a second. The Griz/Thunder could bring him in for veteran . . . something LOL. There's also going back to the Blazers which is probably not very likely or the Twolves. And i wouldn't be surprised if the Pistons brought him back on a 1 year deal for around that amount. Personally, i think the rumor is BS, and he'll take less money for a good situation. But if money is what he wants i don't think he'll have trouble getting that amount, maybe give or take a million on a 1 year or short term deal.
I don't think Sheed will come back...mostly cuz of Curry.
I predict that Sheed will land with a contender for a full MLE type deal. It will be a team with a coach he respects and a system that inspires him. This will all contribute to him playing WELL next year in whatever role he is asked to play.
Looking at the context of the 8 million quote it seems that it was second hand information from a novice reporter:
So I shouldn't have tattooed this on my arm?
That is a really interesting option. What if the moved Lewis to the 3 and had Sheed play the 4? That kind of changes them from a little soft team to a more conventional playoff type group.
Do I smell a sign & trade? - Sheed for Turkeyglue? ...Sheedo for Hedo?
Rip for Turkeyglue & Pietrus.
I don't think pole dancers should have tattoos.
Yes, and henceforth it'll be known as the Sheed exception, or Sheed rights, or TFA (technical foul allotment).
Wow. Insert Sheed at the 5, pull the beast to 4 and Lewis to 3. That's a damn good front court. Magic may want to deal if they can't beat the Celts.
