State didn't win in 84. Maybe you're thinking of 87 & the 88 Rose Bowl win over USC. 1990 Big Ten co-champs...I think Wisconsin went to the Rose Bowl that year (?). Pretty much nothing since then. State is WAY overdue for a good season, but I'm not convinced this is going to be one.
Hondo Carpenter asked Phil Steele about State's record this year. .500 maybe. Hondo agreed. Still, it ought to be fun.
Yep. I think maybe 6-6 which I believe gets us in a minor bowl. I'll take it. LOL. State isn't that good anyhow, most likely, and they have the toughest schedule in the big ten. I'll take .500. Not much, but hopefully going in the right direction. I can easily see 5-7 and 7-5 would be a bonus.
Wrong on the year (1984).................must have been Lorenzo's first season then. I lived in Lansing in 84' for 8 months while football season was happenin. It was a good year for him...........
It's nice to see Sparty win, but nothing to feel good about here. They had penalty after penalty and almost gave the game away several times. Notre Dame is crap. So is U of M. But I can see MSU losing to both with this stupid play. They are 3-0. It's hard to imagine them not going 6-6 with this start. I think IF they can beat Notre Dame they can do it and get in the Tidy bowl or something. Better than nothing which is what we usually get.
I went to the Michigan State football game today and they did almost give the game away. They shot thereselves in the foot a ton and could of put a lot more points on the scoreboard. Some playcalling was questionable in certain situations and special teams really helped out the Spartans. It was nice that they got the win though.
Michigan State is rolling over Notre Dame 31-14 while Michigan just knocked off Penn State. Michigan State will go to 4-0 while Michigan will go to 2-2 and 1-0 in the Big Ten.
Nice that both games were televised out here in Montana. Poor JoPa losing 9 straight to Lloyd Carr. Wanna see if MSU can CONTINUE their winning ways. Interesting to see if they're ranked this week.
This one scared me because I did not want to be the team that lost to the team that lost to Appalachian State. But Good game by the Sparties and also a very good game for the team that lost to Appalachian State.
Apple State just lost to Wofford...........now guess where they are.... I think MSU should schedule Wofford........just to see what happens.
I meant to say that I didn't want to be the team that lost to the team that lost to the team that lost to Appalachian State. But anyhow, I suppose Sparty will lose to Wisconsin next week. Unlike U of M, MSU actually has some road games on our schedule. At any rate, I think Sparty CAN beat Wisconsin, but more than likely we will NOT and will see a 10-14 point loss. :( Looks like a bowl game of some sort on the horizon.
Several years ago, OSU had 8 home games and just 4 road games in a season. I thought it was absurd. Seeing that UM got the same cush schedule [strike] has changed my mind[/strike]has brought back that absurd feeling. If Michigan can beat Penn State, than MSU can beat Wisconsin........just do it....
MSU is a pathetic 3-13 over the last two years of conference play. Wisconsin is on an 8 game Big 10 win streak and has the longest win streak in the nation at 13. Today's game is an opportunity for MSU to gain some credibility.
WOW cable has signed a deal with Big Ten Network and broadcasts start today with the UM-Northwestern game. WOW! Internet, Cable & Phone - Illinois | Indiana | Michigan | Ohio I expect Comcast to follow suit in the next few weeks.
Consider the respective competition: #9 in the nation vs. #9- in the Big 10 I always hate to get optomistic about Spartan football, but they put up a good battle. Costly penalties & turnovers are still a lynchpin.
