Spurs fan here. I'm a Pistons fan for the rest of the playoffs. Please do NOT let the Mavericks and their sorry excuse for an owner win an NBA championship. You guys are our only hope (I don't see the Suns, Clips, or Heat taking the Mavs out).

I think that Phoenix is the only team left in the playoffs who can possibly beat Dallas.

    We're most likely screwed.

The Pistons have a big fish to fry in Miami first. The Pistons didn't really want to see the Spurs again. They may have told themselves that they did to prepare mentally for the inevitable, but the Mavs can not stop our offense.

AHB, I look forward to rubbing your nose in that post. See ya after the finals.
NoMavs, I would think you would have kept it a Texas thing. Needless to say Cowboys and Stars can take a flying leap at a rolling donut.

ahb should be demoted to non-chat status for sheer pessimism

    Mavs in 5 is a Texas two-step.

Tex-Mex is great...but ahb has had too many Lone Stars! :P

Can we stop the Mav`s offense? In our victory against Dallas this year they were without Devin Harris and Josh Howard. In that 37 point defeat those two were on the court!

Devin Harris had 14 off the bench and Howard had 26........hmmmm:ohwell:

I was rooting for the Spurs until they got to the Finals. I know Spur fans wanted the Pistons to win Games 6 and 7 in Cleveland as well. Now if the Pistons play there basketball I don't think there is a team that can beat us in a 7 game series, but who says we'll play our best?

Good call AHB. I think the Bulls would have been the other team if they could have beat Miami.

If Joe had drafted a Bosh or Wade we wouldn't be having this discussion. Imagine them or Tay off the bench. The Pistons would be whoopin %%%%% through the league. Sorry, to be a pessimist but that decision by Joe will haunt this organization for a long time. It was a legitimate chance at greatness. Plus Davidson is too cheap to pay for a little more bench talent.

Just felt like venting when looking at the Mavs stacked line up, from starters to the bench.

There are worse positions in pro sports management than to be haunted for only winning the Championship 2 out of 3 years vs. 3 out of 3. I wish all Detroit teams had this curse.

Your absolutely correct. Just wishing for what could have been a Pistons dynasty. You don't get theose chances very often:hurt:

My biggest hope is that the Pistons maintain a team that is capable of winning the Ship for a long period of time... sort of like the Spurs or Red Wings have done. I think that is more important than crushing the competition for a year or two and then going through a long rebuilding process.

Sometimes we go under the assumption that the team will get old together and that'll be the end of the run... Joe D still has some chips to play moving forward.
    • One or two of our rookies turn out to be effective
    • Orlando pick
    • MLE
    • 2nd round Joe D special
    • Trading expiring contracts
    • Trading a vet for a youngun

Compared to Red Wings it is clear that the Pistons have done things by FA. The core of the Wings was done with drafting. This was the secret of their continued success.

AnaK, we went through that. Bosh or Wade would have demanded minutes which no coach could promise. So do we trade Rip or Tay or BBen? Would they have stayed for more rings? Not if they got treated like Darko.

I can see the playing time being an issue. But I am not sure if would be a big one. Right now our only reliable bench player is Dice and to an extent Lindsey. There is a scoring drop off from Dice. I certainly think if a Bosh were sitting on the bench he could get 15-20 minutes between Ben/Sheed and Tay.

But that's not how JD was thinking. He didn't want to mess with his starters. So he got Darko as a project/marker. A marker for a #2 pick. There are people who say if Riley was coach when Wade was a rookie Wade would have sat because Riley doesn't play rookies either.
None of this makes sence because a #2 pick should get minutes, period.
