    powerful speech right here
as a former U18 coach, having associated with many coaches and scouts, I must admit that I have made this mistake. I will strive to compensate for this trend going forward.

15-16 year olds...my first "gig" as a coach. I was 17 at the time, coaching the "C" squad that wasn't expected to do anything. I let the kids freestyle the offense and called timeouts to switch our zones. The best way I can describe it...... channeling Tark the Shark minus the towel in my mouth. Won the league. Looking back on it I have to admit that I left 7-12th men in the dust and didn't really teach anybody anything besides "don't suck or you won't get PT"
My best players would have never thanked me even if they had made it all the way....because I never taught them anything of substance.
Cautionary tale for you budding coaches out there.

    So true.
When I played in high school, my teammates and I coached a kids 6 - 8 year old kids league on Saturday mornings. Each team had two of us HS players assigned as coaches.

We didn't teach those kids anything.
My partner and I ran an offense where we'd basically run a clear-out for our best player every time down the floor.
On defense, we'd leave the other teams weak link wide open and double their best player.
We thought we were doing a good job. The team won games (we lost in the championship).

I'd like to now apologize to those kids wherever they are.
    We failed you.

    8.5 feet free-standing hoops.
A couple of my teammates had to run a bunch of extra suicides for destroying one of those things during a dunk-off.

Nothing worse than making girls and children play to a 10' hoop.

Off the top of my head I can think of at least four things worse...
    1) Josh Smith 22 ft shot
    2) Tay fakes
    3) globally-ignored cultural genocide
    4) A game between Dallas and Detroit devolving into Drummond and Jordan shooting FTs

Still not as horrible as being 10 yr old and trying to guard a 10' high rim. Or a 6' 12 yr old.

Reason I'm asking is I don't see the image. I can see it when I follow the link but not in this thread.

It works for me too. Image caching is a real PITA sometimes.
