Guys, actually this was a business decision. JT O'Sullivan was really impressing the staff so much in learning the offense that it was going to be tough to figure out who to cut between him and DanO. Now Stanton can learn the offense without pressure.

Oz is right on. Stanton wasn't going to miss much time, but this was only a learning year for him. Once O'Sullivan came on board and started impressing, it pushed Stanton down to 4th. Putting him on IR allows the team to keep Orlovsky, O'Sullivan and Stanton.

Stanton being injured does allow the team to keep the other three. I would have rather drafted a solid defensive player with that pick. Team needs required a smarter pick this past draft.

Orlovsky has to feel great, huh? O'Sullivan comes in and basically jumps in front of Dan-O (I'm thinking anyway).

No team can pick with 100% accuracy.

And, on the bright side for the Lions, I don't think even Millen can botch 100% of his picks.

Figuratively, this is Stanton's second redshirt season.

I think Stanton was a good choice.............for another team who needed a QB. We already have 3, and he'll end up being the 4th guy now.

I'd like to believe that a GM can see defiencies on his team with 100% accuracy. QB, like WR was a position we didn't really need........
For me, this was a needs mistake vs a choice mistake.

FYI: We did need a QB. Kitna is good for holding the fort down for a year or 2, but that's it. A QB needs a good 2 years to develop right. Stanton fit what Martz wanted to a tee.
Some players you have to get ahead of the curve enough to make it right. Harrington didn't have a real chance, had to learn on the fly. And busted.

And we had 3 before Stanton, but traded McCown for a draft pick which turned into a defensive pick. The reason we picked up JT was to have a fourth arm in camp. All teams do this. In this case, JT has proven to be more than just a training camp arm.

Doesn't look like Martz is particularly enamored with Orlowski. That guy is not getting anywhere.
