    Hindsight = 20/20
If Joe would have made that deal, we're a playoff team TODAY and on the verge of being a contender again.

True that. Plenty of Pistons fans here and elsewhere were laughing at that deal at the time.

We're fans. Joe is the GM.

It's fair to point out that he has been making decisions that have led the team to this point.

It wasn't an inevitable decline, it was bad decisions and unlucky decisions.

Joe followed his vision and created a roster full of players who can supposedly play multiple positions supplemented by FA's who can spark the offense. He's in love with combo guards, skinny small forwards, and rehab projects. He assembled this team according to his philosophies and it turns out that his vision sucks.

The old vision was much better... just not sure if that was his or not.

I was one of 'em. If you call Rip/Allen a wash, then that trade was Stuck & Prince for Rondo. And at the time, Stuck and Rondo were comparable. So, essentially it meant we would have been giving away Prince for nothing. And at the time Prince was quite a valuable member of the team.

Nobody, including Ainge, foresaw the dramatic improvement Rondo had.

Maybe one day we can say the same about Stuckey's improvement one day.

That day was the day after the Golden State game. It was sweet, but now it's in the past.

He'll be peaking 4 years from now. You can say it then.

Maybe he never read the email

I do recall this rumor back then and most of us thought it would have been a bad deal - believe it or not. How times have changed.

This was summer of 2009. In that prior season, the Celtics were 62-20. In the playoffs that year, Rondo basically averaged a triple double (16.9 pts, 9.7 rebs, 9.8 ast, and 2.5 stl) over a 14 game stretch. He had already LED his team to a championship at this point.

Rodney appeared in 4 playoff games that year with an eFG% of .393.

Dime had no trouble calling it.

Granted it is a big IF talking about the Rondo deal, but on top of getting Rondo and Allen's expiring deal (who wants one of those when LBJ and Wade etc were available, I’d rather have the cap space the year before they hit the market.) I think Joe still could have signed his dream bench tandem of Gordon and CCG.

in your face. Joe needs to be fired. The list of dumb decisions may be too long and there's no need to examine all of them. In the end, the team is one of the worst in the legaue and if Joe's not to blame, who is? It's not the coach, Phil Jackson wouldn't win 30 games with Poppovich as his assistant with that roster.

So if that deal would have been approved and if he did not trade Afflallo and did not sign CV and Gordon, and perhaps over paid for someone like Boozer last summer then we would be contenders right now. Seems like a lot of simple if's and do's and dont's. Yes Dumars has made a lot of mistakes the past few years which explaines why we are where we are now.

I keep waithing for the blockbuster deal to make up for it all - we will see.

You know, I didn't either really... but researching this is making me a little ill.

By the way, I don't expect that there are too many GM's who wouldn't like to have a few mulligans. I really think it's unfair to beat up a guy like Joe for things like the Darko pick, etc in isolation.

But you have to assess the pattern of decision making over a significant period of time. Since we've gone from the top to the bottom, there are 3 possibilities:

    1) Joe basically made good decisions and got unlucky in the outcome
    2) Joe has made poor decisions and the outcome is fair
    3) Joe has been intentially rebuilding the team and the outcome was expected by him.

#3 is out. We know this because of the long term extensions that he gave older players. These moves indicate that he was trying to win with this current group. The Boston trade would have been attractive to him if he were pursuing this strategy.

So, was it #1 or #2?

What has transpired for me is that Stuckey is not even in Rondo's Zip Code...

Ne never will be. Joe whiffed on that one....
