Current Pistons’ players Henry Ellenson and Michael Gbinije along with the Pistons’ first-round draft selection from the 2017 NBA Draft, Luke Kennard, are all expected to participate. Pistons associate head coach Bob Beyer will serve as the team’s head coach.

I'm not sure about starting lineup. I'll take a stab at it. Any other guesses?

    PG - Gbinije
    SG - Kennard
    SF - Hollis Thompson?
    PF - Ellenson
    C - Mike Tobey?

All four of our summer league opponents drafted guys that were on our radar. It may be interesting to see how they fare compared to Kennard (#12).

NY Knicks (#9): Frank Ntilikina - France
Charlotte (#11): Malik Monk - Kentucky
Miami (#14): Bam Adebayo - Kentucky
OKC (#21): Terrance Ferguson - USA - played in Australia last year

    PG - Lorenzo Brown
    SG - Luke Kennard
    SF - Michael Gbinije
    PF - Hollis Thompson
    C - Henry Ellenson

I've always liked Brown and Langlois is saying Gbinije is going to be playing SF (because we don't have enough SFs, right?):

This is a new thing that will be interesting to watch.

    • Two-way contract prospects – There’s a new incentive for Summer League invitees and an added dimension to the importance of the summer exercise for NBA front offices. The addition of two-way contracts – each team can sign two players who’ll be limited to 45 days with the NBA parent team that retains their rights while they play for G League affiliates – means the Pistons will be on the lookout for worthy candidates to fill those slots.

It sounds like Stanley will be practicing with the summer league team, but not playing in the games.

    From the same article:
"Get Luke Kennard up to speed – The No. 12 pick will get his indoctrination to NBA expectations with Beyer’s two-a-day practice schedule. He’ll get a taste of how longer, quicker athletes will challenge him at both ends. The Pistons expect Kennard will adjust to that on the offensive end fairly quickly.

Like Ellenson, defense will dictate the pace of Kennard’s NBA career path. More than anything, they’ll probably look to see how he competes and battles through fatigue and the physical challenges new to him in this environment. And again as with Ellenson, if Kennard can figure out a way to survive as a defender, the breadth of his offensive skills will open things up for Van Gundy offensively."

I really hate this narrative that Kennard shouldn't play because he isn't great defensively. The average score in the finals was: 125.8 to 110.6. The best teams were the teams that put up the most 3s.

I know some on the forum may appreciate defense more than others because the main Pistons teams in history that had success were defensive juggernauts. But, that's just not how the current NBA is going.

The Pistons have to be one of the worst franchises at developing players. Just let the kid be free. He's got a great stroke. Don't try to change him too much.

Kennard (21) is 6 months older than Ellenson (20) and only 1 month younger than Stanley (21).

Drummond is 23 and Harris, Hilliard, and Pope are all 24.

The Warriors have also had a top 5 defense to go with their historic offense.

You can't be good at one end of the floor anymore. That's what the modern NBA is about. If he can't defend then semi-contested shots become practice court jumpshots and lay-up lines. These offenses are too good for that.

Are you sure Ellenson didn't have one of these deals last season?

They wouldn't play Ellenson because of his D but they had no problem playing Leuer. That's what's so aggravating about it.

He finally got some run at the end of the year and Special K said something like, 'He really likes to rebound'. Really likes to rebound? GET HIM TO THE BENCH FAST!!!

Well Leuer had experience, a pro body and knew the league.

That stuff matters. Dre is in his 9th season and he still doesn't know where his own locker room is.

Experience? He played 18 mpg the year before.

A pro body? He got pushed around by guards when he would set screens.

Or do you mean he'll have those things 3 years from now when his contract is up?

When I think about the Pistons and areas for improvement, my mind goes straight to Jon Leuer, our max player who gets max minutes.

Can he turn into a personality who can assume responsibilities?

I don't why but after reading this post, my mind went straight to "The Responsibility Poem" by Charles Osgood. :)

No, the two-way contract is a brand new provision that will start on Saturday.

The contracts allow a team to carry two extra spots that don’t count against the salary cap. The players must have less than four years of NBA experience and can be swapped between the NBA and the NBA Gatorade League (formerly called the D-League) for up to 45 days in a season.

The rule allows teams to retain the rights of the 16th and 17th players on the roster, as they go back and forth between the G-League and the NBA.
