I'm going over OKC situation thinking, how are they in a better position financially for next year? They traded Harden because they didn't want to pay 13mil and got a guy that's playing WELL IN HIS CONTRACT YEAR and is currently making 12mil. Next year, Ibaka's contract kicks into overdrive and I don't think OKC can afford the 3 and Martin. Even if Martin was willing to accept around 9mil they'd be over. Right? So, do we sign Calderon and pull a sign and trade with them for Stuckey just so they can cut bait to avoid the 8.5mil? Or maybe even straight up? Then you have Stuckey available as trade for a SF. version 1 Start: JC, KM, KS, GM, AD Bench: BK, KE, KM, CV, JJ, VK version 2 Start: Start: JC, KM, Stuckey Trade, GM, AD Bench: BK, KE, KS, KM, CV, JJ, VK
Martin is putting up his worst per 36 numbers since his second season. The trend is heading down. Not sure he's anyone's answer at the 2 considering he usually misses several games a season.
Kevin Martin is playing well, but certainly not $10m well. He is bench firing power at best for me. I would much rather pick up JR Smith for an MLE and actually get some value for my money. If you want a sweet 3pt scorer, you want Reddick, Kyle Korver (FA) or someone like that. They traded Harden because they didn't want a $60 million contract on the books when Perkins was making $10 a year and Ibaka got resigned. Harden wasn't worth the luxury tax that would come with his contract. Kevin Martin is a rental cover. They are not in luxury now ,and if they will be next year they just won't resign him. Easy. Also, name 3 decent SF's who we could get for Stuckey & flotsam. Tayshaun is off the table.
Take a look at Kevin Martin's final days in Houston and you might think twice. If I remember correctly, he was a total malcontent and was benched by Kevin McHale for a laundry list of reasons.
To be fair, I'm pretty sure that McHale had a "no dribbling the ball when the coach is talking" policy. It's really, really hard to respect that kind of nonsense.
