Okay. The Fantasy Hockey 101 guide by Superstarov is done. I stickied the thread and then closed it, so we can keep the discussion in one place, but it can be accessed easily. HERE IT IS. Let me know if I missed anything that you guys still need to know.
EXCELLENT! Thanks Super, now I have enough info to kick your butt all over fantasy Hockeyland. Seriously, very helpful insight.
Thanks, I tried to cover all of the bases, without giving up my draft plans. If anyone has any other questions, fire away.
I'm going to make a hard run at Sean Avery, he led the league in penalty minutes last season, and was almost 50 penalty minutes ahead of the second guy. Those type of numbers will really help your fantasy team!
Well, I personally will probably go for 4 defensemen, 3 goalies, and the rest forwards, trying to make sure that I have at least 3 guys who can play the C. That's in an ideal world. But it may not happen that way. If you get two goalies that are pretty sure to play a decent number of games, then you may be fine with just two. Incidentally, I had my friend who is playing with us check out the Fantasy Hockey 101 Guide, and he told me I gave up too much of my "hard earned fantasy hockey strategies".
I'm really excited about the draft tomorrow. I have no idea what I'm doing. I'd be hard pressed to explain the difference between cross checks and crossovers, but I'll give it my best. I love playing fantasy sports in general, so I'm sure I'll pick this up. Too bad I can't draw a nice salary for sitting on the computer all day analyzing fantasy stats and strategies. I've participated in live drafts where the commissioner fills everything in afterwards, but I've never done it where the computer takes care of it. So we all meet in Yahoo somehow? How does that work, exactly?
You got to yahoo, see the order and start picking when it is your turn. Your roster is built automagically! I'm pumped too.
Yeah, log into the Yahoo page, and there will be a link that say "begin live draft", or something like that. I recommend logging in at least 20 minutes early. Just a little over 24 hours!
Roscoe, if you draft my boy, I'm driving down to Windsor and %%%%% slapping you. I swear to God, I will.
He's not even worth a 3rd round pick really. I just like having my favorite player on my fantasy team.
Where do I get a list of all the players?? I know most of the Red Wings, but the rest will be mostly a guess. Is there a list so I can try to make a plan before the draft, or do I have to somehow create a list of all the NHL players available. UGH! I do know the difference between a lineman, and a shot clock violation.
Woody http://www.pistonsforum.com/red-wings-hockey/4386-fantasy-hockey-101-a.html You will have PM in 5 minutes...
Here is all you have to do. They make it pretty simple for you. Go to the main page of our league, where it has the team names listed. Click on your team's name. There is a big box that says when the draft is. In that box toward the bottom is "Pre-Draft Player Rankings" - Click on that. Right above where it lists the players, it says "Edit My Rankings" - Click on that. Then you can sort the rankings by different categories, and add them to "My Players" with the arrow keys. This way, if your turn to draft is up, it will show you the highest ranked player in your rankings that is available to draft. (I think) - Just be sure when you are done ranking your players, to hit the "SAVE" button in the top right hand area. Also, at any point you can click on "Players" at the top of the page. I like to do this in a new window, so I can check back and forth between the player stats and the rankings page. But from the "Players" page, you can sort players by a ton of different statistical categories and positions. Then you can bounce back to the "Rankings" page, and apply the knowledge you've just gained. I hope this helps you guys out. If anyone has a problem, I'll have the PistonsForum open about a half hour before the draft starts. So if you have questions, send me a personal message, and I'll try to help get you navigated to the draft.
