What teams have surprised you, what teams are performing like you expected, and what teams are underachieving?

    SURPRISES:

    1. Atlanta Hawks: After going to a 7th game with Boston the Hawks lost Childress and made no significant move in the offseason. It looked like they would do worse this year, but so far they are 4-0 and have the best win percentage in the Eastern Conference.

    2. Charlotte Bobcats: If they keep their lead against the Raptors they will start the season 3-3. I expected Larry Brown to have a tough time playing with a lot of young players.

    3. Memphis Grizzlies: After being a terrible team last year and trading Pau Gasol for basically nothing, the Grizzlies have somehow started the season well. Right now they are 3-3 and the 6th best team in the West (record wise).

    MEETING EXPECTATIONS:

    1. L.A. Lakers: A team having players like Kobe, Odom, Gasol, and Bynum should start strong. So far they are undefeated.

    2. New Orleans: A threat in the West. They are right there with the rest of the Western Conference teams at 4-2.

    3. Houston Rockets: With Ron Artest the Rockets are supposed to be a threat. So far they are 3rd in the West.

    UNDERACHIEVERS:

    1. Philadelphia 76ers: They were hyped up this year. They almost beat us last year and they added Elton Brand. Somehow they are only 2-4 and the only team in the conference with the a lower record is the Wizards.

    2. San Antonio Spurs: One of the best teams of the decade has started 1-4! The only reason they are not #1 on the underachievers list is because of the injuries to Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili.

    3. Dallas Mavericks: They have basically underachieved ever since their collapse to the Miami Heat in 06. Right now they are 2-3 and if the playoffs started today they would not qualify.

    Surprised by:

Hands down Hawks. I seriously thought J-Chill would be big for them considering he's a really good 6th man.

    Meeting Expectation:

Rockets are doing what they are suppose to do. Win.

    Underachiever:

    SPURS!

They are being EXPOSED! Without Parker and Manu they are nothing. What happen to their great defense?

The Hawks are 4-0 and Josh Smith has only played in two and 1/4 of those games.

It should be noted that the Jazz opened the season 5-0 without Deron Williams suiting up in any games yet, but 2 of those wins were vs the Clippers and one against the Thunder. They lost today to the Knicks so their thoughts of going undefeated was dashed today. The Knicks are now 4-2 so I would throw them in there as a surprise too.

The Spurs are missing key players, but do not have the depth of the Jazz or the Hawks, but I am not sure what the Mavs excuse is other than Cola is at the helm:bow1:

Here are the top 10 in todays NBA LA Times first power rankings of the season
    1)Celtics
    2)Lakers
    3)Jazz
    4)Hawks
    5)Rockets
    6)Hornets
    7)Suns
    8)Cavs
    9)Pistons
    10)Magic

Have to wonder if the Pistons would have beaten the Nets on Friday would they have been ranked at least 4th., especially since the four teams ranked immediately ahead of the Pistons all have 2 losses.

Rockets: Hopefully, they get out of the 1st round this year.

That was a second game of a back to back as they beat the Jazz by 18 in SLC...you know the place where the Pistons have not won since some time in the 90's....
Believe it or not, Devon Harris may be one of the top guards in the league and [strike]possibly[/strike], probably better than both Nash and Kidd. (and maybe AI) since he did score 38 points on us on a bum ankle in Iversons first Pistons game...

This may be one of Cubans worst mistakes (even more than the insider trading), of trading Harris for the old potential HOF'mer Kidd. Seems like Joe is trying the same thing getting AI...

Oh yeah don't look now, but the Nets are only a game behind the Pistons in the overall eastern conference standings.

Speaking of "don't look now", if the season were to end today, the NY Knicks would be in the playoffs at 8-8.

Actually, the terms are "less developed countries" and "more developed countries".

Made up by the UN to replace "the third world" which is kind of tacky.

    Could have used economically challenged.

Its surprising that we are 7.5 games behind the 1st seed at this point in the season. Looks like the days of coasting in with a high seed in the East are over.
