Tayshaun will be playing deep into September. This no doubt may wear him down as the season goes on. This makes for a loooooong basketball year for both Tay & Billups.

With Jarvis on board, he can eat up a lot of minutes, what a nice insurance policy.

Billups will pretty much end up in the same predicament. With the addition of both Stucky and Afflalo, we may need as many guards as we can get.

Do you guys feel that playing on the USA team will impact Tay & Billups as the season goes along?

To be honest, I don't see Tay getting a back-breaking amount of minutes for USA. He probably squeezed onto the roster as it is.

They should be fine, and if anything this is more ammunition for Joe to fire at Flip to play the bench more minutes.

As long as Jarvis doesn't get hurt.

Good point about lack of minutes. The same may be true for Billups. Perhaps this experience will have the guys showing up pretty sharp when they head into Pistons camp.

These two should be sharp coming into camp, but let's just hope and pray that no one --especially our guys--don't over extend themselves with a freak accident/injury. I mean these things can happen at home, so I don't want to blame it on this USA event if something does happen.

WE just have to hope that Flip realizes that if things are to go as planned, these guys will be playing until mid June, so monitor their minutes by playing your back-ups from game 1

I'd still rather have them rest than be sharp for the regular season.

I think this is a concept that may be beyond the reach of Flip at this point, Dre. He is good with the basics but when it comes to adding up the minutes and all that, I just don't think it's fair to expect him to be able to do that.

I agree, it should do little besides help keep him sharp and maybe help him pick up a few tendencies vs some key foes.

I really like the Hayes pickup. A 1 year deal is ALWAYS a good deal because it's at worst a trading chip, and at best a chunk of cap room next season. :thumb:

Speaking of being sharp, I hope Sheed is sharp and in shape. I'm worried that he's been sharpening up on his blunt-rolling abilities.

I think Tay's playing time will depend on how close the games are. I can easily see them placing him in the game in situations where they need a stop badly. I expect him to play in tandem with Tyson Chandler alot. A situational lineup with defense in mind featuring Chauncey/Prince/Chandler isn't that big of a stretch.

Joe will have to watch Flip monitoring Chauncey's and Tay's minutes. Flip seems to be incapable of the proper time management. Otherwise, there will be another playoff exit short of the finals.

Yeah, its sad that our two players with the most "fatigue issues" are playing this summer. I smell another excuse coming....

This time it is not going to be an excuse for the players. It would be an excuse to cut Saunders if he can't manage the minutes.

I really see this as a built in excuse to bring price off the bench for a good chunck of the season...... his ball handling to help out the rooks would be a really good thing... and help keep his minutes down.

We know Tay is not coming off the bench.

why not? Like I said with him playing for the national team and all the mins he could rack up there between playing and the extra practice they need time off.... (bill and prince) I am not saying he's now a bench player for now and forever but for a good part of the season to help the young players get ready for the playoffs.

If San Ant 3rd best player can come off the bench and win titles why can't our 4th? best come off the bench to keep him fresh so he doesn't do what he's done the last 3 years.... burn out by the time the playoffs come around.

And this is all asuming the new guy can hold the fort as a starter.

I don't see any harm in Tay starting, but playing reduced minutes (25-30 per game). And he can sit out some of the deciding moments of some games to give that playing time to the youngsters. That way he's not going to be worn out.

That's funny because there was a piece on ESPN I believe about Mark Price making a comeback. He said that shooting is like riding a bike.

Sure hope so, but you know how coaches are. They get a guy who doesn't make mistakes, who does "all the little things", who contributes in a lot of areas, and they just can't take him off the floor.

Or in the case of this team, can consistently hit an open jump shot.

Last I heard he failed as a coach in the Australian basketball league last season after only a hand-full of games. Ex-nba player and Charles Barkley nemesis Shane Heal went on to become captain/coach and lead the expansion club to the playoffs.
