Vince Young says he's coming out. http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/5231320 If I were a GM, I'd take him either 1 or 2, with Reggie Bush being the other pick. What do you think?
I'd have to agree with you. Both appear to be special players. I would probably choose Vince all things being equal since running backs seem to come a dime a dozen. I think it is fairly obvious though. The pick will be based on need and you can't go wrong with either of the selections. Lets not also forget that USC has a quarterback that is no slouch as well.
Good move by Young. His stock is so high right now. Will be interesting to see if the Texans draft him and send Carr on his merry way. The 49ers drafted a QB last year so I can't see them drafting Young, but you never know.
I would take young with a 8-15 pick. Everyone is forgetting what his stock was 2 weeks ago. He still doesn't connect on enough open passes. His happy feet is going to get him hurt in NFl. Could be great, but not a number 1 pick IMO.
I don't see Leinert making an immediate impact in the NFL. I'm not saying he's a slouch, but I'd be surprised if he went top 10. I think Young had too much to lose by staying in college another year. With his playing style, he could have easily endured a career ending injury, and have to (gasp) work for the rest of his life. And he'd be a shoe-in for the Heisman... which is a kiss of death in the NFL for a quarterback.
I agree that there won't be a better time for Young to come out. He couldn't possibly have a better final game than he did in the Rose Bowl. I'd be shocked if Leinart wasn't picked in the top 10. I personally think he's a bit overrated, but I still think he'll be long gone by the time the Lions pick. Which is a good thing, because I don't think the Lions should draft a QB in the 1st round.
My bad, San Fran. isn't drafting second. New Orleans is. Tennessee is third. McNair could be a good mentor for Young, according to the "Cold Pizza" gang.
PastF, actually I heard VY's passer rating is #1. I would go VY @1 Bush @2 Matt L. @ 6 or later [Matt had the benefit of great players all around him]
First of all he is number 3 (Rudy Carpenter is number 1 with 173.01) and secondly, pass rating doesn't mean jack in regards to NFL ability. Thats why the Rex Grossmans of the world are at best average. Yes he should go pro because he will never fool this many people twice, but he is not going to be an elite QB IMO. I am not sure but I think my daughter (who is 5) threw for 3,500 yards in the Big 12 last year.
