Smart players who aren't super stars really look hard at fit and team need. I.e. are they needed there and can they for sure secure the starting position. They'll take that over being a bench player in a great climate.

Singler's pressence is probably scaring most players away as they realize that he will for sure win the starting spot by all-star break.

    You make a valid point.
Whatever happened to players opting out of their contracts so they could go somewhere else to "be the man".
Now players bolt on their teams so they can go team up with other insecure superstars to collectively attempt to succeed.
There's no entrepreneurial spirit in that approch.

Build a team and the players will come. Poor man's Jodie Meeks would do just as well as the real thing.

This team is Monroe, Drummond and the PG. Every move they make should leave them ready to pounce on the right PG at any time. The rest are just role players.

Is this a joke? Are we sure SVG isn't sandbagging us?

A wing that can help space the floor by shooting the 3-ball. SVG is getting pieces that fit his style of play.

Yeah, his shot chart and stats from last season didn't suggest an elite 3pt shooter... I thought there were better options out there, but SVG targeted him early so he must have seen something he liked. He'll get an opportunity. I don't recall seeing the $$ figure but should be quite cheap.

He has shot nearly 40% from 3-point land. What do you consider elite?

Fairly small sample size... he was 41st in 3P% last season and made only 59 (ranked 137th). Sure, lack of playing time prohibited him, but that means I'm not ready to declare him as elite just yet.

From what I've read, he was extremely accurate in pre-game warmups, which probably pushes him into elite status.

Datome can't play the SG position. He is a Small Forward.

I think Cartier Martin is also a decent defender. (Or so I heard)

Also, about rotations: I fully expect SVG to be smart enough to play San Antonio Spurs with our bench warmers, giving our "BIG 4" (Jennings, Smith, Monroe (IF he returns) and Drummond) a rest. We don't want to throw all the tactics out there against a possible NBA Finals rival.

    So the Pistons' current roster:
    C: Drummond/Monroe/Gray
    PF: Smith/Jerebko/Mitchell
    SF: Singler/Butler/Datome/Martin
    SG: KCP/Meeks/
    PG: Jennings/Augustin/Bynum/Siva

    Here's what I like:
    2014 (TEAM) 3p% ... eFG% ... ppp
    Augustin (CHI) 41.1 ... 51.4 ... 1.10
    Meeks (LAL) 40.1 ... 55.4 ... 1.22
    Butler (OKC) 44.1 ... 53.0 ... 1.15 (Note: Butler wasn't great in Milwaukee)
Martin (ATL) 38.4 ... 52.3 ... 1.14 (Note: I didn't include his 6-game stint in Chicago because PPP would be difficult to aggregate)

Take a good look at those four guys, and those numbers. That's some good offense. How good? Hint... I'm smiling...
I took the liberty of shuffling those players into last year's squad and sorting:

    by 3p% (Min 10 shots)
    Butler 44.1
    Jerebko 41.9
    Augustin 41.1
    Meeks 40.1

    Harrellson 38.7
    Martin 38.4
    Singler 38.2
    Jennings 33.7
    Bynum 32.3
    KCP 31.9
    Billups 29.2
    Siva 28.0
    Stuckey 27.3
    Smith 26.4
    CV 25.0
    Datome 17.9

    by eFG:
    Drummond 62.3
    Meeks 55.4
    Jerebko 54.6
    Harrelson 53.7
    Butler 53.0
    Singler 52.5
    Martin 52.3
    Augustin 51.4

    Monroe 49.7
    KCP 46.0
    Mitchell 45.8
    CV 45.7
    Bynum 45.1
    Stuckey 45.0
    Smith 44.8
    Jennings 44.1
    Billups 39.2
    Datome 38.7
    Siva 37.7

    by PPP:
    Meeks 1.22
    Singler 1.16
    Butler 1.15
    Drummond 1.15
    Martin 1.14
    Harrelson 1.12
    Augustin 1.10
    Jerebko 1.09
    KCP 1.07
    Stuckey 1.03
    Monroe 1.04
    CV 1.03
    Mitchell 0.95
    Jennings 0.95
    Bynum 0.94
    Smith 0.92
    Datome 0.86
    Billups 0.76
    Siva 0.76

These guys are four of the six best shooters on the team already (Singler and Jerebko, I don't count Drummond as a "shooter").

The Pistons shot 32% (507/1580) from deep last year. If those six take the majority of the threes, Jennings plays much less, and Smith moves exclusively down low, this Pistons team will be one of the best long-range teams in the league. With Smith, Monroe, and Drummond rotating inside and those other six drawing a majority of the minutes on the wing (I'm starting to think that this may be a big year for Jonas), this could be a crazy efficient offensive team. Or you could see a regression to some sort of mean, given that one could make the argument that all of them overperformed last year.

Defensively... that's another matter. We'll see, I suppose. But if you're out-shooting and out-rebounding your opponents, you're going to win more than you lose. I wasn't expecting much this early, but SVG has made some sneaky-good transactions here. The metrics are looking pretty good, guys. Nothing's won in the offseason, but these are four excellent signings.

I like that svg has been active. I shudder to think if jd was here we'd be sitting on our hands still.
