Gotta separate the 2 "Joes". Joe has made some mistakes as a GM (understatement alert). But was also steering the ship in '04. That championship against the HOF'er stacked Lakers was unexpected and awesome! Joe had a plan and it worked. I'm willing to cut Joe some slack for the past few years. For me, his next few years will define his legacy as a GM. For the record, Joe is my all-time favorite player as well. All of the Rip Hamilton contract extensions, Darko drafts and CV free-agent signings in the world couldn't change that.
I'm wanting to give Joe another chance for two different directions... 1. We all know that he's been handcuffed for the better part of the last two years. 2. I don't blame the coaching changes all on Joe, thats also an owner issue... we all heard that the owner bad mouthed Rick after he left. (it was rick that was rude to the officer workers right?). It was the owner who ran out of patience waiting on Brown. I have to bet that the owner was the one making the call to hire the cheap option the last two times.... Does he have allot to prove? Heck yea he does... and while I don't have a number of wins I expect to see this year, I do expect every single member of the Pistons this year to be fighting for 48 mins a game to try to win, if not.... they need to be sent packing. I don't care if its the "star" of the team or bench player numbe 15.... or the coaches.... I expect EFFORT day in and night out.
No doubt there are news that Isiah Thomas is shortlisted. But what makes everyone thinks that Isiah would wanna coach the Pistons with Joe as GM. Isiah was the captain of the Bad Boys and he was always the face of the franchise at that time. Ego wised, you guys think he wanna be No. 2 to Joe?
Lamb/Mahorn certainly would be the fun choice and it is my choice. It's not too far fetched considering they both have assistant coaching experience. It would be a ratings booster for sure. I can't see Dumars taking a chance on them but you never know.
I think we should take the fun choice as coach because we all know these next few seasons aren't going to be entertaining from a basketball talent standpoint. I'm all about watching Lamb's postgame pressers.
I crack up every time I see this: YouTube - Laimbeer and Mahorn play defense in the wnba‏ We gotta hire these guys!
The fact that Isiah Thomas was even brought up in a conversation for the head coaching job let's me know this team isn't serious about winning. Mediocrity here we stay!
Laimbeer is my choice man. But I would agree too If Joe D chose Woodson or Lawrence Frank. BUT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, RASCOE, AND ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD, Do not bring Isiah, PLEASE.
According to the New York Post, Zeke is not a candidate: Read more: Thomas says Grunwald Knicks' best bet for president - NYPOST.com
Chad Ford says we aren't hiring Isiah Michael Rosenberg of the Free Press: I guess it's all for show to improve Isiah's image. pistonpowered.com
It probably helps Zeke's recruiting image with FIU prospects if he continues to "turn down" options in the NBA.
Lawrence Frank...now there's a name I'd completely forgot. A decent candidate. Maybe time for a Nemo prediction.........
Maybe Dumars is also afraid of jeopardizing his friendship with Laimbeer? More likely, he doesn't want to be put in the awkward position of having to fire an acquaintance/ former teammate. If that's the case, I might consider fixing the glitch.
At this point if Joe is still afraid to hire Laims as the HC, lets just go with Woodson and bring in the BBShock tandem as the first two assistants off the bench if Woody has prostate/pipe issues like his mentor LB....
At this point if Joe is still afraid to hire Laimbeer for personal reasons let's fire Joe and install Laimbeer as coach with personnel decision-making power.
