Back to a point. How can we expect to keep knight and greg with a chump team?
You won't keep them..........and they shouldn't stay. Unless things change drastically from what we've seen.
That's why we have to show some progress from a roster standpoint. Not necessarily build "around" them, but build with them in mind. ...Gotta bring in guys that will help them succeed and give 'em some hope. Joe has proven that he can build a team comprised of pieces that fit. He needs to prove it again. I beeotch about Joe all the time but I don't really want to see him fired. I want to see him succeed. It's either that or we can all watch Greg Monroe playing next to Dwight Howard for the Brooklyn Nets in a few years.
One third of the way through the season (already!) and our win percentage is 18.2% which equates to 12 projected wins. The magic number is 13.7 so we are still on track. And if anyone doesn't think other teams are trying to out-tank us, it's time to wake up! Obviously, the Bobcats will need to speak to Diop about being a little more subtle.
As long as lottery spoiler Charlie Villanueva keeps injuring himself in his sleep, we should be ok. I DON'T want Chuck V coming back and putting a string of 20-10's together and carrying the Pistons to 19 wins. If Joe really wants to drive the TANK, he'll slip a bunch of Ambien in Charlie's Gatoraide on the regular. Park a nice comfy couch in front of his locker so he can grab a nap and tear his ACL.
From Bill Simmons' review of the season so far: Ouch.
So, what you're saying is that we need those guys back soon?
YES! Well, except Charlie-good-for-nothing-except-ruining-lottery-chances-Garbage.
Nah we want a few 30-15 games from him. Why you ask? Well its simple. Trade value. CV starts showing that he has some talent *shudder* then another team may take him. Im totally cool with that. Meanwhile if we want to take the diop approach then we need Jerebko at the PF and Daye at the PG. Watch our completed pass number plummet to Wizards levels.
Rookie contracts. They's not like to quit or demand a trade. We have a few years to turn things around before they bolt for greener pastures as an unrestricted FA.
Plus, can't we offer more money to these guys than anyone else when their contracts do run out?
I haven't looked at the contracts. It depends if they will end up as restricted free agents or not. If they are restricted, we only have to match the offer of another team to keep them. Look, Knight may hang around, but I can't see Munroe staying unless things get better. He knows that he is good, and that other teams will offer him big money for his services. He will only stay in Detroit if he feels that the teams needs are being looked after, and that includes building a decent goddamn team. Lets not end up like the Suns here
The Pistons have 2 1/2 years for Monroe and 3 1/2 years for Knight to get things turned around. There's plenty of time.
Our last year with a rookie is a qualifying offer. We should be able to match any offer. We can hold on to these guys for a while
Don't be to sure about that. In the end, Gores will have to spend some big money with the right talent observers to get out of this downward cycle.
The way the new CBA is written... it will become progressively more attractive to stay with your original team.
So playing like crap, hanging out in the lottery, and drafting studs may be the Pistons best game plan for the next couple of years?
I'm not convinced that Knight is even solid. He hasn't even shown me as much as Stuckey has (albeit, the other is in his 5th year). He's shown absolutely NO play-making ability at this point, which is very disappointing given the minutes he is playing.
We can only hope that other GMs do not figure out this new way to 'ships - tough and intense competition at the bottom is the last thing we need right now.
lol so by not signing Stuckey, how exactly did we aquire a shooting guard that can shoot from outside and take his man off the dribble? Pretty sure that guy isn't on this roster and that's not a guy we can afford. For me, Monroe IS our core. Jerebko is a nice energy player off the bench, but I don't think he's a future starter on this team, ever. Remains to be seen with Knight, but call me unimpressed so far.
