It would be interesting if they collected the data for shots attempted at the rim and then the blocked percent of that. Nicknames & Will the Thrill get a high share of their total shots blocked, but probably take more jump shots that never get blocked than at the rim shots that might get blocked. If you assume they shoot half jumpshots and half at the rim, then Nicknames is getting one of four shots blocked on those drives of his. And what the hell is going on with Nazr? Geez guy, you're seven feet tall.
Out of the top 16 guys who get their shots blocked the most, 4 of them are Pistons? We are 25% of it? Wow, is that horrible.
They pretty much keep track of that at 82games. Monroe gets 16% of his jump shots blocked and 13% of his shots in the paint blocked. So, it isn't just finishing, it's everything. Maxiell gets 11% of his j's blocked and 16% in the paint. Bynum gets 10% of his j's blocked and 21% in the paint. Stuckey gets 8% of his j's blocked and 20% in the paint. Gordon: with 5%/ 8% mix. Prince: 2%/2% Villanueva: 2%/3% Hamilton: 1%/ 0% McGrady: 3%/ 6% Wallace: 9%/ 6% Daye: 0%/ 10% Summers: hasn't been blocked yet... barely played So, Prince, Rip, and CV never get blocked. Daye hasn't had his jump shot blocked yet. Ben Wallace is the only Pistons who is getting blocked on dunk attempts (20% of them). Bynum and Stuckey are getting packed a ton. Maxiell is severely undersized, so it's expected. While Monroe gets blocked a fair amount in the paint, he also gets blocked more outside the paint. This leads me to believe that his main problem is that he hasn't adjusted to the NBA defenders yet. i.e.- bad judgment on his shot attempts. He'll improve his selection and will improve.
[SARCASM]Detroit is doing pretty good when you add the contract values to the ASPM.[/SARCASM] According to the calculations done in DSMok1:s model the total value of the Piston contracts sums up to -$60.8M and they dominate the individual worst value list too. Those stats are just plain embarassing....its a shame that with former Pistons hanging around the palace such as Mahorn, Vinny Johnson, John Long, Matteen Cleaves, Bob Lanier and Greg Kelser that not a one of them has been hired to teach how to block out, fake/pump a shot, deliver a pass...dunk a ball. PLAY SOME D.....I mean only Lanier is HOF but I'd bet on those other guys...even Dumars himself to assist in enhancing their skills than Kuester and his coaching staff.
Here are the top 5 players in 2 statistical categories this year: Category #1 1) Arroyo (PG) 2) Bonner (C) 3) Bibby (SG) 4) Stevenson (SF) 5) Aminu (PF) Category #2 1) Nene (C) 2) Nowitzki (PF) 3) Kevin Martin (SG) 4) Odom (SF) 5) Billups (PG) I think it's unique because both of these seem to have the top 5 as a unit that could play together and fill all 5 positions on the floor. That is somewhat unusual as a single stat is usually dominated by players who have an advantage in that area (centers for blocks for example). There are no Pistons who show up in the top 5 of any statistical category this year. There are a few former Pistons who pop up (besides the ones above): Billups is tied for 4th in FT%, Afflalo is 5th in eFG%, Darko is 3rd in blocked shots and 1st in block %, Amir is 3rd in total fouls, and Amir is 5th in offensive rating... and that is it. I still think that one of the most surpising stats of the year is that Kevin Love has 117 rebounds more than Dwight Howard. What a breakout year for KL. Also, Felton is #4 in the league in assists behind Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and Steve Nash. Wish we would have nabbed him. Kris Humphries is 3rd in offense rebound percentage and 1st in Kim Kardashian rebounds (they first met when he thought it was a basketball and grabbed it). And that is the end of the road for statistics.
Just a couple +/- tidbits as long as I was looking at the numbers. When Stuckey and Villanueva are on the floor together, the Pistons are +70 this year in 397 minutes. This is our best 2-man combo. There are also a few 2 man combos that are better per minute, but that haven't played as many minutes: Ben Gordon + Wilcox is a good one and Ben Gordon + Villanueva. 3 man combos: Stuckey/Villanueva/Gordon and Stuckey/Villanueva/McGrady are good. Combine those 2 3-man combos and you get our best 4-man combo. Best 5-man = Stuckey/Gordon/Prince/Villanueva/Wallace Top +/- player in the last 10 games is Prince... followed by Wilcox, Villanueva, and Ben Wallace. Top 2-man in the last 10 games is Ben Gordon and Wilcox. On the Miami Heat, just for the hell of it: Top +/- players per minute- 1) Chris Bosh 2) Z Ilgauskas 3) D. Wade 4) L. James Big men leading the way.
With the way Prince has been playing; I can't believe he is not counted in the 2, 3 or even 4 man "best combo"? That makes no sense unless the fact that he also logs a lot of minutes with the poorer combinations has a major impact.
Do we have a poor man's Tim Duncan in Monroe? Let's just compare the stats from Monroe's season compared to Tim Duncan's first year: Stat: Duncan/ Monroe (per 36) Pts: 19.4/ 9.9 Reb: 11.0/ 9.6 Ast: 2.5/ 1.3 Stl:0.6/ 1.6 Blk: 2.3/ 0.7 FG%: .549/ .467 FT%: .662/ .557 Except for scoring, passing, blocking shots, and shooting efficiency, the two guys are remarkably similar at this point in their career. Monroe has a big edge in steals. Here is how it looks if we clone Monroe and put two of him out there together... Stat: Duncan/ Monroe + Clone (per 36) Pts: 19.4/ 19.8 Reb: 11.0/ 19.2 Ast: 2.5/ 2.6 Stl:0.6/ 3.2 Blk: 2.3/ 1.4 The Monroes dominate in this matchup.
With Ben Wallace on the court this year: 816 minutes: the team is -148 Without Ben Wallace on the court: 941 minutes: the team is -16 We're 12-24 when he plays and 3-2 when he doesn't. He has 1 double double on the season and only 5 games with double digit rebounds. Only 1 game over 6 points!!! Again, 36 starts and 1 game over 6 points. That's terrible. Last season, Ben has 24 games over 6 points. One other disgusting stat. Out of the 41 games played so far this year, we've only held one opponent under 88 points. In 2004, we held our opponents below 70 eleven times and we were only the 2nd best defense in the league. Only 3 opponents scored 100 or more in regulation on us.
Monroe is fourth in the league in Non-Steal "Forced" Turnovers and Stuck ninth. Non-Steal “Forced” Turnovers | The City
Interesting. There are a lot of big men on the list, including Nazr and Shaq. I wonder if the threat of a block makes the make they are guarding do strange things. I recently read that about 50% of NBA teams have a stat department with the main goal being to evaluate players for acquisition or trade and a secondary goal to evaluate the performance of their own. They keep them quiet however and they obviously keep their findings to themselves for the most part.
Nope. 10 of the World's Greatest Jobs - Oddee.com (cool jobs, fun jobs) I think that I could do a combination of some of the jobs on this list (luxury bed tester and candy taster possibly).
