There are some teams where every player with significant minutes is in the -. The amazing thing is that we are close to breakeven as a team (down about 1 point per game), yet we only have 2 guys who are significantly above breakeven.
SHEED'S FREE THROW MAKES (adjusted to 82 games per season) 2000- 236 2001- 261 2002- 209 2003- 222 ---------- joined Pistons 2004- 188 2005- 141 2006- 139 2007- 118 2008- 122 2009- 96 This year he is on pace to end up with 50% of the free throw makes that he had in '04. Either he is not giving it his all or his energy level is rapidly deteriorating. He's still been a great defensive player for us, but his offense has fully evolved to the perimeter. I just think back to MC's quote at the beginning of the year that basically said that the reason that Sheed isn't mixing it up is because his conditioning needs to improve. MC's plan was to make sure the conditioning improved that Sheed produced more in the post/ paint. That goal seems to have been abandoned after about 5 minutes into the first game of the year.
I did a little research into our revolving starting lineups this season, mainly because Roscoe asked someone to, but also because I was interested. It turned into the following results: Starting Lineups-------------Games--Wins--Why?---------------Opponents Tay, Sheed, AJ, Rip, CB--------2------2---AJ made starter----IND, WAS Tay, Sheed, AJ, Rip, Stuck-----2------2---CB out, Stuck in---@CHA, @TOR Tay, Sheed, AJ, Rip, AI--------3------1---AI in--------------@NJ, BOS, @SAC Tay, Sheed, Kwame, Rip, AI-----7------4---Go big?------------@GS, @LAL, @PHO, CLE, @BOS, -------------------------------------------------------------MIN, NYK Tay, Sheed, Kwame, Rip, Stuck--1------1---AI benched---------MIL Tay, Sheed, Kwame, Rip, AI-----4------1---AI back------------POR, @SAS, PHI, @NYK Tay, Sheed, Rip, AI, Stuck-----8------5---Small ball---------@WAS, IND, @CHA, WAS, UTH, -------------------------------------------------------------@ATL, CHI, OKC Tay, Sheed, AJ, AI, Stuck------3------3---Rip injured--------@MIL, ORL, NJN Tay, AJ, Kwame, AI, Stuck------5------3---Sheed injured------SAC, @LAC, @POR, @DEN, @UTH Tay, Sheed, Rip, AI, Stuck-----5------1---Rip/Sheed back-----CHA, @IND, @OKC, NOR, @MEM Tay, Sheed, AJ, AI, Stuck------2------1---Rip bench----------TOR, DAL Tay, Sheed, Kwame, AI, Stuck---1------0---Who knows?---------HOU Tay, Sheed, AJ, AI, Stuck------5------3---Who knows?---------@MIN, BOS, CLE, MIA, @MIL Tay, Sheed, Kwame, AI, Stuck---1------0---Who knows?---------PHO Tay, Sheed, AJ, AA, Stuck------1------0---AI flu-------------@CHI Tay, Sheed, AJ, AI, Stuck------1------0---AI back------------ATL Tay, Sheed, Dice, AI, Stuck----5------0---Dice in SL---------MIL, SAS, @CLE, @MIA, @NOR Tay, Sheed, Dice, Rip, Stuck---1------1---Rip in SL----------@ORL Totals:---------------------------------57------28 Total lineup changes---------------------17 Lineup changes due to trade--------------2 Lineup changes due to injuries/return----5 Lineup changes due to discipline---------1 Other------------------------------------9 Lineup Results:---------------Games-Wins--Win% Tay, Sheed, AJ, Rip, CB---------2-----2---100.0% Tay, Sheed, AJ, Rip, Stuck------2-----2---100.0% Tay, Sheed, AJ, Rip, AI---------3-----1---33.3% Tay, Sheed, Kwame, Rip, AI------11----5---45.5% Tay, Sheed, Kwame, Rip, Stuck---1-----1---100.0% Tay, Sheed, Rip, AI, Stuck------13----6---46.2% Tay, Sheed, AJ, AI, Stuck-------16----10--62.5% Tay, AJ, Kwame, AI, Stuck-------5-----3---60.0% Tay, Sheed, Kwame, AI, Stuck----2-----0---0.0% Tay, Sheed, AJ, AA, Stuck-------1-----0---0.0% Tay, Sheed, Dice, AI, Stuck-----5-----0---0.0% Tay, Sheed, Dice, Rip, Stuck----1-----1---100.0% It's difficult to interpret this data reliably. The most effective lineup was Tay, Sheed, AJ, AI, Stuck. This is the only lineup that was above 50% while playing enough games to make the sample size large enough for any significance. Most of the other lineups weren't tried often enough to be able to get reliable sample sizes. One interesting fact is that when Rip and Stuckey start with Tay as a small forward, we are undefeated. This has only happened 4 times so far, though, so I think we are about to get a better idea of whether this is a good idea. I am optimistic. The main thing we can draw from this is that Curry has made 9 unforced lineup changes this season. In 17 weeks, that is almost one change every 2 weeks. We've played 57 games in 17 weeks - a little over 3 games per week on average. So that converts to approximately one lineup change every 6 games. That's only the unforced ones, i.e., conscious decisions by MC to change the lineup. Due to trades and injuries, etc, the lineup changed another 8 times. That's 17 total lineup changes in 17 weeks, about 1 per week, or one every three games! Is it any wonder that as a team we seem discombobulated? If Curry stays consistent to his inconsistency, and assuming there are no more injuries or trades to force Curry to change the lineup, over the rest of the season (7 weeks) the lineup can be expected to change another 3 or 4 times. I'll set the over/under at 2. Any takers?
No problem. You probably could have gotten it posted a lot faster than it took me to format everything nicely. But at least it's there.
Damn good post! It's funny how injuries have allowed MC to do things that he wanted to do anyways, but didn't have the guts.
That is weird. I knew that when Amir was taken out of the starting lineup he would end up behind Maxiell. It's like MC just likes Max off the bench. He must think that he's good in short stints with high energy... which is probably true.
Kwame played, had no rebounds and hit 2 free throws? Insane. Has anyone looked outside to see if cats and dogs are mating?
so the pistons are doing lot of experimentation on the starting line up. Anyone knows which team had the most starting line up experimentation during one season? is it possible that MC is going for a record???
Stuckey and Rip combo. When on the court together, they were: +16 against Orlando +14 against Boston + 7 against Denver Overall, both players have been in positive territory as a whole for all 3 games. Rip: +14, +20, even= +34. RS: +15, +14, + 9 = +37! Next closest is Tay: +5, +11, +12 = +28.
