I'd edit my original post if I could...but I can't. I wish I could go back and write that "we need a legitimate two-way big man in the worst way." I don't care if the new guy's a center or a power forward. But we need someone at the 4 or the 5 that plays really good defense and rebounds. And we need someone at the 4 or 5 that is a more reliable low-post scorer. Monroe's a solid player. He could become a good player. He's probably not going to become a great player. Him and Jerebko aren't enough inside on most nights in the NBA. Before we worry about fixing any of our other problems, we need to focus on that. C/PF: 2012 1st Rd. Pick!? C/PF: Monroe SF: Prince SG: Gordon PG: Knight 6th: PG/SG/SF: Stuckey 7th: C/PF/SF: Jerebko 8th: SF/SG: Daye 9th: PF: Villanueva 10th: PG: Bynum 11th: PF: Maxiel 12th: PF: Macklin/SF: Singler/whatever
Adding one good big man doesn't do much for this squad if you don't rid yourself of some of the dead weight (Prince, Villanueva, Maxiel, etc.) in trades. This would still be the worst team in the NBA.
I watched the Lakers-Nuggets game yesterday and the sheer muscle of having a guy like Andrew Bynum on your team can do wonders for a team like the Pistons. On offense he plants himself down low just long enough to get a pass from a teamate and can either dunk or drop it in effortless. Yeah because he is injury prone, it appears that he is a forgotten man on the Lake show, but I am thinking that they are better off with him than Dhoward.... If we had a big 7 foot 275 pound man in the middle that could as everyone states can play "2 ways", then that adds 20 more victories to this team...
It would be great having a huge bodied center who destroys in the paint and can also stretch the defense with his silky stroke... I think that is why Joe signed Nazr a few years back.
Armygirl is right..........this team has no strong leaders who can keep him in line..... No Billups, Sheed, Isiah, Laimbeer........
I noticed Eddy Curry on the Heat sidelines tonight. I wonder if he'll be serviceable later in the year. He's only 29 I believe. I'm sure they didn't pay him anything.
I doubt if he has a no trade clause in his contract, but he may be the type who would rather ride the coat tails or bench to a possible championship in South Beach then come to Motown to sing with these Pips.....tons.
I still have dreams of Josh Smith, but I know that a package of CV, Daye, Maxiell, a 2nd round pick and Bynum won't be enough and i'm not willing to give up on Knight, JJ, Monroe, Stuckey and Gordon. It's sad but we need those 5 guys.
The Bucks have about 9 serviceable PFs and I read that they're likely to be moving one or two of them.
I found this analysis lurking the General Boards at RealGM. It's by a poster who calls himself tsherkin and he uses Synergy to break down the post play of players he finds interesting. I found the analysis to be well worth the read. The thread: http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1149533&p=29835780#p29835780
Pray tell which one you'd want on the team. The only ones that aren't undersized are Gooden, Ilyasova, Leuer and Sanders. The one that's most likely to be moved is Mr. Inconsistency Ilyasova, who would be a terrible fit for the Pistons.
Pretty much any guy over 6-9 in the NBA could come to Detroit and become the 2nd best big man on the team.
