Like Yeah despite JV's success, only one or two of victories 19-24 looked solid in September, but Fister was just flawless... OK we got games 1 and 2 despite the road trip....
Seems like going with CC in games 1 and 4 preemptively, is a sign of panic. Tigers should not show their hand if they plan to switch.....We could actually lose game one...then take the next three. (Fister, and two home games...)
Uggh. If the Tigers and Phillies go to the World Series, even though I am a big Phillies fan, I will root for the Tigers. Detroit and the Tigers need it more. (If it were the Lions and the eagles in the NFC championship game I would totally root for the Eagles but it would make me sick to see either one knock out the other). Do you guys like Leyland now?
In 68' McLain won 31 games with an era. under.200, but Lolich pitched games 2,5,then game 7 in the WS cause he was the hot hand. I'm feeling the same this season with Fister. Would never do it though til the actual WS...... I wouldn't put JV in for game 4 of this 5 game series, under any circumstances either...
You mean Penny or Porcello? Scherzer will start game #3. It amazes me that Brad Penny made the 25-man playoff roster. Why waste 5 roster slots on starters when you are only going to use 4?
I'm guessing he is on the roster in case we get down big in a game. Instead of having to burnout the entire bullpen, we can throw him in there and his endurance can finish it out. I sort of like the idea of having an additional starter as opposed to a 3rd string position player for instance.
Right now Porcello is scheduled to pitch game 4 on Tuesday (if necessary) and that is why posed my orignal question the other night: If we are down 2-1, do we go with Porcello or Verlander since CC is coming back to pitch game 4 for the yanks? Most said keep JV out and hold him in case there is a game 5. I would trust Porcello with the ball before I would go with Penny.
That's kind of the reason he's on the roster. Or in case there's rain delay and they need someone in there to pitch a few innings.
Jim Leyland's underwear remains a hot topic Detroit News staff Tigers manager Jim Leyland made headlines during the Tigers' 12-game winning streak in September — not so much for making all the right moves, but for rather for making one curious one. Superstitious, he didn't change underwear. He was asked about that during Friday afternoon's press conference. "There are stores in New York that sell underwear," Leyland said. "I will be wearing some tonight. I will be wearing the same ones tonight. And if we win, I'll be wearing the same ones tomorrow." The groan-inspiring follow-up question from the New York press: Boxers or briefs? "long ones" he stated From The Detroit News:
The ump will be be JV's biggest enemy tonight..as those Yanks will take every pitch to wear him down. Avila should have had Jeter and that first out if he had put some english on the ball....
Tigers old english "D"... Kind of an "unofficial poll".......... Which do you like better. 1. The Hat. 2. The jersey 3. Nemo makes dumb posts........
Knowing how things go in NY, this game will not be over until after midnite east coast time which means some of you will not know the results until tomorrow morning. Don't like the fact that the Tigers have already struck out 4 times in two innings and Verlander threw 25 pitches in the first inning and had two walks and a safe non-out strike out that proved to be the tying run.
Then Cabrera bobbles the double play ball and Inge throws to first when he easily has the guy out at home. It signals one thing....the Tigers are nervous.
Yep I'm nervous too, where is my glove?? I might need to go in there for defensive purposes...When is the last time Brandon Cringe started a game???. I think they would have been fine if this had been at Comerica, lets hope the coaches calmed everyone down during the rain delay and the video guy has already shown them their three mistakes in the infield. Anyway, the only good sign is the game has been on for over an hour and Verlander still has a no-hitter going...
