    Leland knows what he's doing.

He made a lot of decisions in game 1 that were solid, but happened to backfire. His reasoning is sound and he's smarter than he comes across (mumbles a lot).

    GO TIGERS!

Tigers relief pitcher Jose Valverde figures it will end Tuesday.

"It’s over already," Valverde said to a group of reporters Sunday evening after closing out Sunday's 5-3 win. "(Justin) Verlander has it tomorrow. The next day we have the celebration in Detroit. They have a good team, but I think that’s it for them."

At that point, a teammate asked Valverde whether he knew media members were writing down what he said.

"What’s the deal?" Valverde said. "I want it over because I want my team to go to the second round."

Papa Bear is great. Hopefully this is how it will go.
I don't think there's any poster board material at this point. Because if you need it to get up for those games then you shouldn't really be there.

Also, I wonder if it has anything to do with his level of English. I just don't know enough to make a call.

I don't like guarantees as it always motivates somebody even if it's the opposing team's bat boy to do something out of the ordinary.

Yeah Papa with 49 and half saves should be able to walk the talk, but after scaring most of us last night, he should let his pitching do the talking and leave the guarantees to a sober Cabrera who along with Max were responsible for last night's victory. Former Yankee Phil Coke indicated somebody in the Yankee clubhouse will use it as bulletin board fodder.

By the way what's the weather forecast for tonights game at Comerica? if Thunder showers are threatened, we don't want another second inning stoppage of rain that takes JV out of the whole series......Should this one be played at Ford Field?:)

Once again Papa Grande scares :nailbiting: up another save..(50/50) and partly backs up his guarantee

Nice moves by JL with Santiago, Inge and the Kelly PH for Maggs, but I would have left Verlander in there to get the complete game and left out the Valverde dramatics ...after all Verlander is not pitching anymore this series.

MVP is Delmon Young > Most Valuable Pickup that is....:whoo:

Verlander was toast after the 8 innings. He threw 120 pitches, many of which were stressful. Coming back after going through the starting routine 2 days ago was taxing, as well.

Valverde sure does make it exciting. He would have caught some crap if he didn't follow up on his guarantee.

Delmon looks so comfortable. Awesome pickup.

Porcello needs a decent outing tomorrow. Burnett will be VERY hittable.

I wish JV could avoid the errors. Two of them cost him 4 runs. Luckily CC was off his game as well and the offense managed to pick JV up.

Offense also needs to capitalize on all opportunities - i.e. runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs.

Hey, we're up 2-1 and are batting almost .450 with runners in scoring position.

What a stressful game that was. I can't believe we have Verlander on our team.

Granderson has become quite a stud. Very dangerous man nowadays.

Got four hits out of utility guys Santiago, Inge and another out of Kelly.

MVPickup got two hits including the game winner and Peralta the other.

Nothing from Maggs, VMart, Cabrera, Ajax or Avila and we still win. Tells you what happens when Verlander is pitching....as he is now 14-0 when the Tigers score 3 or more runs.

Expect half of those bigs guys explode tomorrow and let Porcello cruise to the victory without any late inning suspense...

Also, some really stellar bunting from our squad so far. Underappreciated aspect of the game. Leyland is wisely using small ball against the Yanks best pitchers and so far we're about 4 for 4 on sacrifices with a successful drag bunt base hit as a bonus.

Good article here about Don Kelly... only player in MLB to have played all 9 positions:

[SARCASM]If the Tigers lose the next two, I think they should fire Leyland.[/SARCASM]

I agree. If you can't get 4 or 5 runs off Burnett, you don't really deserve the win. Need to get it done before the 9th inning and Rivera.

Just checked into my hotel here in Albuquerque and it is even worsed than it was when I got off the plane (2-1 Yanks)....4-1 when I checked in and now I see the parade of middle relief pitchers falter just as they did in the first half of the season.

Coke, Scherlteh, Perry did their usual.:yellowprison:..and Al New Mexico. once again proved why some rookies just aren't ready for prime time. Maybe brad Penny should have pitched in Coke's place??/

As indicated, I missed the first 6 innings on the plane, so not sure what happen to the Tiger bats, I can only imagine that AJ Burnett fooled everybody....

Hopefully Fister can stop the bats and the Tiger bats get to Inova early and often.
