Didn't the first day of the season (or at least the first game) used to be only the Cincy Reds matchup? Or maybe I'm remembering that wrong?
Your correct.... another "Tradition" that has gone by the wayside because of things having to be equal for everybody.
The initial sign that summer is around the corner. Not only are expectations high for the club but for the nation as we move forward into the summer. Probably doesn't hurt that I am a Mortgage Loan Officer and it is my busiest time of the year.
Interesting stat to ponder for this season. Last year the Tigers were 48-38 before the all-star game. They finished the season going 33-43 the rest of the way. This has been consistent with Leyland...team doing much better before the break...
yep his teams tend to fade in the end due to overmanaging the pitching staff, the batters tighten up and there is always some injury that affects the whole team. Once a guy even got loaded the last weekend of the season and rumor has it cost them the central division title in 2009.....
Well opening day for the Tigers is over and done with and ESPN got what they wanted a victory by the Yankees. Now they can hope that their over favorite team Boston Red Sox will win in tomorrow's televised opening for them. Both CC and JV got their required strikeouts, but the plate umpired still squeezed the plate for Verlander despite his wildness. That one pitch to Teixier that landed in the upper deck after two base on balls was his down fall. After that he was able to settle down and stay out of trouble. The game was a standoff until the 7th inning, when both pitchers were lifted due to pitch count. Joba came out there and shut the Tigers down without a whimper in the 7th and Phil Coke faced the Yanks in the bottomed of the 7th and served up a 2-0 count GW homer into the right field stands to the guy he was traded for ~Granderson (who made two great catches during the game to possibly save a run or two) and then the Tigers infield struggled to get the next couple of guys out before JL lifted Coke for Perry. The Yankees sent out their setup man, hold guy and closer and they shut the Tigers down 1-2-3, three times. The Yankees won the game with the power of the long ball and perfect pitching in the last three innings.
I'm not really bothered only winning one of three in the Bronx. However, giving up runs like the UM defense gave up TDs last season is really irritating...
4-0 Tigers going into bottom of second. First hit for V. Mart at home is a double in the gap off the gate with bases loaded for 3 RBI's.
Carly Simon just came out with this. YouTube - Carly Simon: Take Me Out To The Ballgame ...and of course there is this : YouTube - Harry Caray Sings Take Me Out to the Ballgame
