Changes at top will be likely if Tigers don't start hitting | detnews.com | The Detroit News Talked about firing Leyland DURING the season...It's starting....
This is what I mean...the team's got talent, so the manager must go if they don't produce results. .500 ball just doesn't cut it for me....not with this group.
I've set very high expectations for the team this season and they don't include playing .500 ball. It's a long season and if he doesn't get off the .500 mark by the all-star break...then yes...I want him fired....
Still no excuse for that 7 game losing streak at the end of April....the next time he allows this team to get swept in two straight series he should be gonner....even if they are in first place...
Yea, a manager has to send a consistent message over a 162-game season. Leyland stays positive through the tough times and doesn't get too excited through the good times (or anytime, actually). Perhaps there is a better manager out there for the Tigers. Who knows? If so, the Tigers may win another game or two over the course of the season. Ultimately, the players have to show up.
Ultimately the manager needs to know when to bench a guy or 3 and get some production. Or yank a pitcher throwing grapefruits. Or sit down on an ump squeezing our strike zone.
