Yeah, like the poster before me said, release him. I wasn't proposing a trade.

Rodney sucked, but Leyland set him up for failure in knowing how he has blown games recently. First Rodney walked the leadoff man, then he hit the next guy in the sternum (that was scary and had to hurt like hell!). Leyland should have yanked him right then...but nooooo.

Anybody have a count of how many times the Tigers have walked in the winning run this season? It seems like it's been at least 4 or 5 times.

A little bright spot on the otherwise grim situation:

I don't know what it is they get their 1 World Series look and it's by-by for 15 years.
Sparky couldn't even get it done but once. Got punked the next year in the P/Os
and was never heard from again. And it was the same team. Talk about lack of hunger.

The 87 team was good...best record in MLB. I was at the Friday night game of the season's last series against division-leading Toronto...the Tigers swept em that weekend to get to the ALCS. Alas, they lost to the Twinkies who went on to win the World Series.

That weekend was the last great baseball to be played in Tiger Stadium...which is currently being demolished

The left field was the most recent part to be taken down at Tiger Stadium in Detroit on Sunday, July 27, 2008.

    Sad...

I'd love to believe it, but can't at this point. Now it's the "show me" time. They've been too mediocre for too long.

I have to admit, I haven't heard anything on this. I wonder that it is coming out of the national media, not local sources.

I'm going to the game tonight. This is a "must win" game.

Take some pix. And, most of all, enjoy the game. Hopefully Tigers can give you a good show. Although, with Robertson on the mound, I don't know if it's possible.

Yeah, Robertson doesn't inspire confidence lately. I'm prepared to be disappointed. I'll try to remember to take a camera so that I can chronicle the last real game of the season.

WDFN just reported (via Tom Gage in Chicago) that Zumaya is the new closer and that 'Rodney will be moved to another role' :pound:

    It's about time!

Screw closer mindset. I want a closer who can strike out the side with the bases loaded.

True closers don't load the bases in the first place

My fantasy scenario above assumes that the bases were loaded due to the previous pitcher or several errors. Of course true closers never load the bases.

Tied 6-6 going into the 10th. Leyland should be fired whether or not we win this game.

Why should Leyland get fired? He's playing with the deck he was dealt by Dombrowski. They took a gamble and lost, nothing wrong with that.
You don't know what you have until you take that chance.
And Tigers actually go up 8-6 in the 14th on the second homer of the game by Polanco.

He shoulda pulled Nate after he struggled to get out of the 5th...but no. He pulled Seay mid-inning in the 8th while he was pitching fine and put in Farnsworth who proceeded to give up another homer. Leyland's lost his marbles.

The entire team stinks. New closer gives up 4 runs to lose the game.
I think I should just forget about them for a couple of years.

Well he surely closed the game tonight giving up four runs in the 14th after the tigers score two in the top of the 14th...This team is done....Nate gets a 4 run lead in the first and then the relievers give up HR after HR to eventually tie it and then Swisher dooms them in the end.. This time I am really done with them...

Blame this seasons douldrums on the pitching and the manager....
