They will most likely not contend if they get rid of Maggs. Who will be driving in runs besides Cabrera? On the other hand, he's getting up there in age and maybe this is the best opportunity to get something for him while his production is starting to wind down. Another tough call.
With the way some people think in this forum; we should only hold onto our talent until they reach their peak. We should then trade them because their stock is never higher and we can get the most for them. This makes no sense to me but it is a recurring thought in a lot of the threads in regards to trades. :nerd2:
Illitch did what we all asked him to do. (some of us anyways) He spent the dough (no pun) and got burned. (no pun) He's a crusty (semi-pun) ole guy so he'll survive........Just have to order more pizza's ...
Season looks over. We're 9.5 games out of first place. We have more holes on our team than Crispy Creme has in their Doughnuts. Makes you realize that going to the ECF six seasons in a row is something special. These Tigers can't even play .500 ball.
Baseball is so stupid. They just need to get the homers right with Ins/Rep. It's a start I guess. - I can see slashing dead weight. But not Maggs. Of course none of these guys are worth > $12M per.
I think they should trade Ordonez. Without a doubt. Trade him during the offseason while his value his high. He's on the verge of winning another batting title (only 3 points behind Pedroia). Get some relief pitching. The Zumaya/Rodney Plan is not working, obviously. Time to cut bait and do something else. Also, this is Todd Jones' last season. Freddy Dolsi isn't ready although he might be next season. This team needs pitching so bad it hurts. Kenny Rogers is likely done, too, so that leaves the inconsistent Verlander, injury-prone and mental midget Bonderman, very solid Galarraga, questionable Freddy Garcia (who is coming back from injury), really questionable Dontrelle Willis, Zach Miner, the horrible and overpaid Nate Robertson and the unproven Eddie Bonine. Doesn't exactly have the rest of the A.L. quaking in their cleats. And Bobby Seay is the only solid relief pitcher they have. And how about that deal for Farnsworth? From a pitching standpoint, this season has been a disaster. Detroit needs to deal some of their commodities to get some good pitching. If they don't deal Maggs, they should deal Thames. I would say Guillen but they need the left-hand bat. And they should deal Renteria, too, if anybody is willing to take him. But dealing Maggs brings the biggest return.
I wish they would just stop squeezing our strike zone. Leyland needs to go psycho on the plate ump every game.
Not that it matters, but the Tigers are now "officially" out of the playoffs with two weeks to go. It's like the season that never was...
So much potential this season and the only significant injury or ailment was Bondy. Willis was a no show, so can't really count him as an injury because we never really knew what we got or what we loss in him. He was just collecting money for nothing (and chicks for free). Leyland needs to retire at the end of the season. His leading the tigers to the almost promise land in 2006 and having the fans believe that they could do it in 2007 and 2008 was about as bad as us diehard Pistons fans believing that we could duplicate the 2004 team's championship winning effort in 05, 06, 07, 08 and with skepticism in 09. The pitching staff needs to be revamped too. JV was horrible and the gambler ran out of dough. The so called two flamethrower arms seemed to have lost their ammo and flamed out early. (Rodney & Zumaya.) Nate should be relegated to long reliever and closer in the mode of F-Rod needs to be recruited as not sure if TJ has it anymore either. The core isn't dead yet, but I do believe a new manager could shape up things in the batting order, but we still have the ultimate ralley buster Brandon Inge in the battery behind the plate.
i hope so cause this year JV stunk up the joint big time! What the he** is up with Zumaya? every time he comes back he leaves with another injury. I just pray that they'll be ready. And Mr. Willis better be more consisent!
