0.5 games back. Can take the division lead tomorrow with a W. Unfortunately, it is Porcello (6-5) vs. Sale (11-2) tomorrow and then Turner on Sunday. Hopefully Turner can bounce back from a miserable start last time.
no Sale ! all items returned due to lack of quality ! I'd say 7-1 is a clobbering. great work by Porcello
You say clobbering........I say take him out............. You say potato (aye)...........I say potato (ah)........... but all that matters is how you do in fantasy FOOTBALL this season............
Sale really has some crazy stuff. Great job by our guys getting at him, especially with 2 outs. Scherzer and Porcello both have really high potential compared to their overall stats. Their best games are really impressive. So much more confident seeing Benoit in there to finish the 9th than Valverde. He's just more under control. On the Boesch thing... I was watching the Sox broadcast, so not sure if you guys heard the same story. In the early part of the game they were saying that Leyland put Boesch in the lineup (despite the unfavorable match-up lefty vs lefty) because he thought that if Sale slipped up, BB could put it over the fence. And it turned out that BB got his first HR off of a left this year and Sale allowed his first HR against a lefty this year. Nice hunch by Leyland.
Missed last two games partying at a jazz festival, but looks the Real Tigers have stepped up!! Just think if they hadn't had that awful May? They'd have the best record in the majors!!
Any coincidence, that July 22 ,2011 was when the Tigers surpassed the Indians to take over first place and never looked back...secure a steady second baseman and another pitcher and they can cruise to the division title again?
I wonder, just when was it that Toby Harrah was added to the staff to help with the hitting? Co-incidence? I think not!
Reports: Tigers trade for Marlins' Anibal Sanchez, Omar Infante | Detroit Tigers | Detroit Free Press | freep.com Can these guys shore up the pitching and second base issues for the ride to the pennant and championship? They gave up a prospect in Turner who pitched good on Saturday, but not sure of the inconsistency there.
Interesting. Infante is a pretty solid pick-up. Not sure on Sanchez. Basically a 4.0 ERA in the National League. I'm not too concerned with giving up Turner b/c he's clearly a couple years away from putting it together and the organization is in "win now" mode. Besides Verlander, we now have 4 starting pitchers with a high talent level, but not super great ERA's. So, even though we didn't just pick up the obvious 2nd in the rotation, we have a battle for the 3 remaining spots and an extra for heavy schedule periods or to fill in for an injury. Wondering if the odd man out (probably Smyly) can be converted into a long reliever for the inevitable early exit games for Porcello or Scherzer. Better than not making a move and you can believe that the effort to get a Dempster or similar was there.
Picking up Fister midseason last season was the coup of the year, so not making a move would have been second guessed if they didn't make it into the post season.
