    Yesterday's outfield:
LF - Delmon Young / Don Kelly
    CF - Austin Jackson
    RF - Avisail Garcia

    Today's outfield:
    LF - Andy Dirks
    CF - Austin Berry
    RF - Brennan Boesch

How many teams can use 7 different outfielders in consecutive days while in the pennant race?

I have a feeling we may see Ryan Raburn (#8) before today is over...

Unfortunately the tonight's Tiger outfield tonight went 2-9 and left 4 men on base.

The GDP by Boesh in the first inning was the proverbial game killer as they only got 1 run, when they should have gotten 2-3.

Avila is just stinking it up in the batters box here lately going 0-4 and two strikeouts today along with seems to have been 2 or 3 K's on Saturday night. He left four batters on base today and capped it out by grounding into a game ending play where someone who was playing with conviction may have hustled out that play and possibly beaten the throw to first.

Oh well we can only hope that the Twins comeback and beat the Sox this evening to keep the Tigers tied for first.

Another 3-2 loss. Fortunately the Sox got demolished by the Twins 18-9.

The good news in this game was that Porcello put in 6 innings with only minor damage and our bullpen was again fantastic. Smyly struck out the side. Albuquerque and Benoit also shutout CLE.

I'm absolutely loving our pitching lately. Verlander's bad game is one of the few blemishes of the past month. Add Albuquerque to the mix and were starting to look playoff worthy... if we can only get in. Smyly is great insurance for a pitching injury and could be really valuable as a lefty mid reliever who is capable of stepping in early in a game if need be.

Beat the Sox three in a row and can't beat KC or Cleveland. Man, I can't stand it.

Tas, I agree that there were a lot of positives regarding the pitching. Losing these close ones is very frustrating, though. You get the feeling that this might go all the way down to game #162.

It appears we need the long ball to get the job done as they cannot seem to get any rallies going with guys striking out or grounding into double plays and leaving runners stranded...

The top of the lineup is batting over .300 and the bottom half is batting under .250

With the pitching averaging an ERA under 3.5 the past two weeks, its a shame this powerful line up can't average more than 5 runs a game...

This one will go down to the end and even if the Tigers are lucky enough to beat out the Sox, not sure if they can get by the O's, A's, Rays, or Rangers in the post season unless the hitting catches fire...

Wouldn't most lineups look similar to this?

Not so sure...I looked at the Rangers batting order and they have the line up mixed all the way through so that there are no dead spots.
We have several dead spots where the we go three up and three down, or even when Fielder gets a leadoff hit, he is stranded out there because the three batters behind him or after Young basically strike out or ground out.....

their leadoff hitter bats .266, then the second and third batters hit in the .290's, clean up .317, fith batter bats .268, the 7th batter bats .321, the 8th batter hits .208 and the ninth batters average is .286.

I know we don't have a line up like the Rangers, but all of our .300 batters are 1-4. Maybe move Dirks to 8th so that we have some type of consistent hitting at the end of the lineup instead or waiting for Avila or Peralta to wake up.

    In the AL:

Our team BA is 3rd. OBP is 2nd. SLG 5th. HR 9th.

Lack of power seems to be the weakness overall.

Just a couple interesting splits to consider-
With runners in scoring position, we have the 2nd highest team batting average.

On the road, we rank dead last in the AL in HR, yet at home, in our big ball park, we are 8th. Go figure.

Against right handed pitchers, we are the top hitting team. Vs lefties, we are 9th.

Here's the best way to look at it in terms of how we compare to the rest of the league order wise (IMO):

    #1 spot: 2nd
    #2: 7th
    #3: 1st (by a mile)
    #4: 1st (by a mile)
    #5: 12th
    #6: 13th
    #7: 7th
    #8: 7th
    #9: 10th

So, we have a great 1, 3, and 4 with an average #2 hitter. Our #5 and #6 have been significant weaknesses for us this year. 7 and 8 are both average. 9 is a little below average.

It's that 5th and 6th spots which have been shared by Young, Avila, Boesh and Peralta that have been the rally killers with only Young recently opening up vs the Sox...
So far four hits tonight through 5 innings with Cabrera's HR the difference.

Only Miggy, Fielder and Young have topped 17 dingers or more for the Tigers...

if we were playing .570 or better I would say, "well ok"
But .530 ? this is garbage.
.530 ten years ago would be a loser !

One of the best 8th innings in awhile for the Tigers......still they finished the home stand 4-2, but are still 5-5 the last 10, while the other teams in the wild card race have been burning it up. But its all about winning 2 more games than the Sox the rest of the season including sweeping all four games next week in Chicago where the fences are shorter for Cabrera, Fielder and Young..

The Angels have finally awoken and have won 8 of 10....hopefully we play them the say way we did last month.......trying to decide now if I should go to Friday nights game with Scherzer pitching or Saturday night with Verlander on the mound. I saw JV last year during his MVP, CYA season but the Angels beat him 1-0 as we were held in check by CJ.... I will make that decision Friday morning.

Fister and the pen with a beautiful 4 hitter, 2 walker. Verlander, Scherzer, Fister is looking mighty. Sanchez, Porcello looking above average for their spots in the rotation.

Indians lineup is pretty anemic though with nobody close to .300. Our first 4 hitters are all over.

He should have said if our batters can manufacture 4 runs, we should win as our pitchers will take care of business on their end. In other words, they could be riding a 8 game win streak and 3 game lead in the division, as they lost two games to the Royals last week, 2-1 and 1-0...

Once again another 3-2 loss as the Tigers pitching does it job, but the batters strike out 13 times, including three each by Cabrera and Boesh...road woes for the hitters ...

I wanted to go the game tomorrow night with JV pitching, but don't trust the hitters and I normally don't to pay for losses.....With the Sox losing the Tigers just don't want to take advantage of it....
