Bad news about Dunn, too. I can see him wrecking that Triple Crown for Miggy. Can't expect Cleveland to do much, but I liked their grit tonight. Not laying down for the Sux. Hawk Harrelson is probably getting drunk right now. Every time he downs a shot he probably screams, "Put it on the booooaarrrddd! Yes!" What a fool.
agree with that...Looks like we need to concentrate on winning the division and that should at least garner a MVP if the Triple C does not materialize. he has had a better month than Trout...
I just got invited to the Sox game on Friday. That puts me in an awkward situation as a guest. i.e. show up and root against the home team when they aren't even playing against my home team.
You do a polite cheer for those sitting around you and in gratitude to whomever provided you the tickets.....and keep your real emotions to yourself until after the game is over. While driving home in your car you curse those sox players and Hawk Harrelson if the Sox win, and you beat your chest in glee if they lose....especially if the Tigers win on the same day....
Sox open the door for the Tigers tonight with a 4-3 loss to the Tribe. C'mon, Tigers, walk through it. For once and for all, walk through the dang door.
Sox fans can be idiots. I would be careful rooting against the home team, especially towards the late innings when most of them are drunk.
If ever there was a time for Anibal Sanchez to earn his cred as a Tiger, it is tonight. The Tiger batters however got to do their part though and provide some early runs and take the pressure off the guy.... You are right ggazoo, the door was opened again today with the Sux loss....they got to get through it today and stay on the other side.
Tigers jump off to a 2 run lead, but batters 6 and 7 end the rally as they always tend to do, when a big inning could have possibly put this one in the win column early. Then our big guys strike out in the second.... Lets go Tigers!!!
Tons of LOBs tonight. Glad to see them finally tie this thing up. This is the last homestand of the year for the Tigers.
Wow. 3 hit, 1 walk, complete game shut out for our #4/5 pitcher! That is really great. Sanchez has bounced back nicely from his poor start with the team. Our odds on ESPN have increased to 51.9% for whatever reason. Probably due to an easier SOS from here on out. Sox have given us the gift of life with their 1-6 stretch. Our 4-3 record was enough to catch them. Can't expect to be so lucky going forward. 8 games to go. Porcello Fister Scherzer Verlander Sanchez Porcello Fister Scherzer _______ Verlander Still on track to have Verlander for the 1st post season game. If there is a tie with the Sox, the play in game is played the on Oct 4th, the day after the regular season ends. Detroit would enjoy the home field advantage in that game and would likely have Verlander on the mound against Sale. This is why it is key to avoid a tie with Chicago. We really are going to want Verlander available to pitch twice in a potential series against the Yankees without HF advantage. The playoffs would start the next day for the winner because the #2 and #3 division winners go on the first night while the #1 division winners play the WC on the 2nd night. Due to the day of rest between game 2 and game 3, we could shorten our rotation if we wanted and could skip Porcello. hypothetical scenario: Game 1: Verlander Game 2: Sanchez (with Porcello available for relief) Game 3: Fister Game 4: Scherzer Game 5: Verlander *Smyly available for relief as well in case Fister or Scherzer get knocked out early. I like our chances once we are in, but gotta keep it up.
Anibal definitely came through tonight.....Standing ovation from the fans but I am sure they were sweating like me just figuring that the 2 runs would not hold up and based on our history, someone was going to commit an error and wrestle this win away from him....after all if not for some errors, this could have been a undefeated home stand.... Plus think about all of the guys stranded tonight 10 total and they were 2-9 with players in scoring position. Blame the win on Leyland for not spoiling the shutout performance by bringing in PapaGrande for a save.... Does anyone think the pressure has finally got to Miggy? Struggled in the doubleheader and then the last two nights.....I am sure he can maintain the RBI lead and probably needs at least one hit in each of the 8 remaining games to hold the average....the question is how short and how far are the fences in Kansas City and Minneapolis?
Yep, because if its down to one game and someone loses game 162 with him sitting on the bench with a 3 day rest.....he might be resting the rest of the winter.,.because you saved him for game 1 of the post season..... Bottomline 8 game season and the Tigers just need to win one more game than the Sox
