Valverde has been done for about a month. It was good for Leyland to witness this mess when the game was pretty much over. Now, he doesn't have to feel obligated to try to rebuild the man's confidence during the middle of the World Series.

No luck for Tigers .....whose names have letters JV...

Did the layoff hurt? Probably..yeah as the Giants are still on a high from the rainy night San Fran... that bounce off the third base ala the 2006 miscues really turned the game around as verlander never recovered and served up another HR to Sandoval....

We still have 6 more chances to get 4 wins and just need to win tomorrow to put the pressure on the Giants.

Yikes, that was bad. Tight strike zone and JV couldn't hit his spots- bad combo. One notable stat was that the Giants had 30 foul balls in only 19 batters against him. In Verlander's last game, he didn't have the strike outs that we usually see from him, so hopefully we're not seeing a mechanical issue creeping in.

We have a pitching advantage tomorrow. Let's hope that we can go back to Detroit with a 1-1 series and then take control.

Our batters were hitting the ball hard off of some good pitching, but it was just spaced out too much and the Giants defense was pretty good... especially left field. Overall, 8 hits and 2 walks for us and 11 hits and 1 walk for them (with 4 of those hits in a row coming off during the Valverde confidence restoration project). And of course, 3 of their hits were dingers from the same dude.

One lucky break occurred as Peralta's HR seemed to have been helped over the fence by Pagan's glove. But the lucky bounce off of 3rd base ignited an important rally for the Giants that seemed to be the key to the game. Without that, JV would have only had 46 pitches through 3 and would have had a much closer game going on.

The pitcher batting thing didn't really negatively affect us with Verlander only getting one at bat and one swing. We subbed around our pitchers for the rest of the game.

Shake it off and put the pressure on them with a road W.

I'd like to keep my predictions open now. I bet the Tigs did no practice under the lights.
These Gmen won 94 games without Melky C.
Yanks were not a good warmup.

Agreed. I was glad they used him since it meant they didn't have to use someone else. 'Course, he couldn't even get through an inning.

The only out he got was the pitcher and it took him about 7 pitches i believe. He's terrible right now. Clearly, he should be out on ice for the rest of the series. Porcello looked good.

Verlander couldn't get Zito out the second time so Valverde is one up on Justin.

It will be interesting to see how the Tigers react to what could be considered a very demoralizing loss.

What would the final score have been if Leyland would have started Valverde and left him in for the entire game?

Geez, what a tense game so far. Does Leland take out DY and start playing defense now, or does he go for it?

This umpire has the tightest strike zone I've ever seen. Tigers sure made that Giants starting pitcher look like a world-beater. Tigers looking a lot like the Yankees team they just beat. Punchless.

Agree with every ones comments...the umps from last night and tonight squeezed all of the Tiger pitchers and then the Giants were able to throw it by the rusty Tiger batters.

If the Tigers lose this series due to lack of hitting, Leyland keeps his job, but batting coach Lloyd McClendan and the third base coach Gene Lamont need to be let go. The heavily favored Tigers came into this series with the best pitching in the post season and best hitting.....on paper. The combo of both won 7 of the 9 games played.

Since then the Giants seem to have the better pitching and hitting, and are getting the 2006 breaks that the Cardinals got we maybe doomed unless the Tiger bats start hitting the ball over the Comerica fences and Verlander is winning game five putting the Tigers up 3-2.

remember how we fretted about every little thing we saw wrong with the Tigs, no timely hitting, can't play on the road, bad relief pitching. We're back to mid season form.

They just held serve. Nice game by Fister, but threw too many pitches in the first 2 innings and had to turn it over to Smyly. Overall, 2 runs allowed is pretty decent (although only through 8 innings).

Gotta get back to our stadium and American League style. I have no doubt that Scherzer and Verlander can get back to back W's for us, but we really need Sanchez to pitch a beauty first.

Giants came back from this deficit in both of their prior series, so highly possible. If we go down 0-3, I'll be worried, but hopefully it won't come to that.

Rough em up at Comerica and take away their confidence.

When pondering Tiger possibilities this post season...........try to remember how they played and
were managed during the regular season. Our helping of pixie dust has probably run out.
The dust is now blowing in another direction. Still............a great season. :)
