Assuming Fister comes back healthy, we are looking extremely solid. Also, great news about Victor today that he doesn't need more surgery. So, that opens the door to him possibly returning by the post season.
he was my first pick, autodraft, all my batters were stolen. so all i got was pitchers until you all started taking pitchers.
Happy birthday to Brendan Bosch who knocked in 4 runs today to lead the Tigers to a 7-2 victory over a great Tampa Bay ballclub. He turned 27 today. No long balls today as Bosch, Avila and Dirks provided the offense today with a couple of triples etc.,and the once again a member of the bullpen got the victory for the 5-1 Tigers. Tigers hit the road tomorrow heading to Chicago.
Thanks for the daily Tiger "Dre-caps" on these games. I'm trying to get back into following baseball again and your quick run-down of the day's events are appreciated. Ilitch has invested in bringing a penant to MoTown and I totally support that. ...time for me to pick up a new Tiger cap this year.
Peavy has a pretty nice one going. 1 hit and 0 walks through 6 against the Tigers' mighty lineup. Also, strong comeback game for Scherzer.
11 strikeouts for Scherzer, but after 5 innings he fell into the same trap as Verlander did two days ago..shut out ball and then couldn't get anybody out. Still the Tigers had their chances in 7th, 8th, and 9th innings but came up short only getting the two run dinger in the 7th. We still have a chance of going 160-2, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
Glad to do it BDL....I am working at home, so watching the games in between conference calls etc.....until the MLB free preview runs out. ..then I will have to follow them line. Tigers don't visit the Angels until September ....hopefully by then they have already clinched the division and most of us out at Angel stadium that day are sporting our Tiger gear..
Tigers salvage a win today and avoid a three game sweep. Rick Porcello becomes the first Tiger starter to get a win this season as the Tigers move to 6-3 and a half a game ahead of the 5-3 WhiteSux. Hopefully Verlander can get another starter victory tomorrow vs the Royals. MLB free preview is over so probably no more real time updates from me for awhile
That 24th out was a tough one to get. Porcello should have come out as soon as he started stretching his throwing arm while on the mound. That's a no-brainer to me. Very in control game for him overall. Even without our offense, we'd be looking pretty strong.
There was talk that the Tigers would be a great pitching and hitting team, but would suffer on defense (with Cabrera at 3rd and Fielder at 1st, etc.). Well, right now we lead the majors with only 1 error committed in 9 games played. 2012 MLB Team Fielding Stats - Major League Baseball - ESPN It looks like the average is 6 and the highest error rate team has 14. So far, so good. Fielding percentage of .997. 1 error in 319 chances. Machine like.
I can't believe you said that. Never say the word "jinx" on a day that Verlander pitches. You've done it again....
Here is the quirky 2011 Justin Verlander stat that defined his MVP/CYA season. Verlander's regular season 2011 record was 24-5 He was 23-0 when the Tigers scored 3 or more runs and 1-5 when they scored less than 3 runs. He was 2-1 in the post season and the same thing occurred. 2-0 when the Tigers scored 3+ runs and loss game one of the ALCS when the Tigers only score 2 runs. 2011 Detroit Tigers Schedule, Box Scores and Splits - Baseball-Reference.com So far history is already repeating itself this year with his first 2 games... Game 1, the Tigers score two runs going into the ninth and need another run in the bottom of the ninth after Verlander is lifted to get a no decision. Second game, took a 2-0 lead into the ninth and the Tigers and Verlander lose 4-2. I know it is just a coincidence, but get Verlander 3 runs if you want a guaranteed victory....
Inge with the homer....gives the Tigers the three runs.....let see if what I said earlier holds up now with the Verlander win....
