Three runs was enough as JV gets into the winning column....just barely. He went into the bottom of the ninth with a 103 pitch count and JL decided to stick with him.....he got into trouble with a lead off hitter, and that runner eventually scored to make it 3-2. With two men on and two out, he hit Escobar on the first pitch and loaded the bases. He had already convinced JL to let him finish it out on the prior play, and looks like he had to shake him off this time.

He caught Royal LF Alex Gordon looking on the last two pitches and recorded his 9th strikeout and first W of the season. The last strike looked low and inside, and even JV wasn't sure, but we, he and they will take it even if he will have to ice that arm for a couple of days after throwing 131 pitches. We probably won't see him again until Sunday...

A couple of HR's by Ajax and Inge provided the lucky 3 runs that JV needed to hold on for the 3-2 victory.

Strike three looked good enough to me to ring up Gordon. I'm glad Leyland left him out there to seal the deal. JV needed to cure his woes from his last poor finish, plus he didn't need Papa Grande blowing another win for him. The most amazing thing was Verlander throwing 4 pitches at 100 MPH AFTER already throwing 125 pitches. The guy is not human.

I am off line for three days here enjoying a Vegas vacation work junket and no one has updated the PisTigers woes?? This 9 and 4 team is living on the edge with a couple of nice starting pitching performances and some lucky late inning heroics form this underachieving offense. Not sure, but I think Miggy only got one hit in the entire ChiSux series.

Now they are facing a possible rematch of the ALCS and don't appear to be in the same league as Chuck Norris', er Nolan Ryan's Texas Rangers per Thursdays nights and today's first game of the doubleheader....What happen to our power??...or our Pitching? Seems like Fister's injury has thrown things off in the rotation and the opening weeks success vs the BoSux is and ancient memory.

Ok I know it's early and they still have 150 games to go, so I will calm down ...and get in my car & catch the second game on the long ride home back to Cali.... a few Tiger runs and nice pitching will at least make it enjoyable.:chopper: .

Brandon Inge is now hitting 0.071. Plus, he blew a double-play and botched another play in the first inning to allow the 8-run first inning. Please Dombrowski, just let this guy free.

Well once again..three runs is the lucky charm as JV get his second win of the season. Papa Grande got his 4th save, but not before Benoit made it tighter by giving up a run in the top of the 8th.

The hot Rangers streak is finally stopped but the Tiger fans at Comerica were once again nervous as every batter in the Rangers lineup looked like they could break open the game and didn't help that Valverde put two runners on the open the ninth.

JV struck out 8 but the patient Ranger batters still were able to squeeze 115 pitches out of him in 6 innings so JL had to pull him especially since he had thrown 131 this past Monday.

Tigers win 3-2 after giving up 20 runs in the first two games of the series.

He went 0-3 in game 2, striking out twice and leaving three runners on base.

Valverde threw 40 pitches to get 3 outs in the 9th. Yet nobody got a hit off of him. Stressful, but he got the W.

Verlander has been amazing so far this season.

The Tigers four pitchers threw 197 pitches in game two compared to 119 for the Rangers Feliz. The Tiger batters have to be more patient and work the pitcher like the Rangers batters were doing.

In the first game it was pretty even with the Rangers pitchers throwing 145 pitches and the Tigers 143.

However, the Rangers banged out 17 hits compared the Tigers 8.

The Tigers were able to win game 2 with only three hits???

Texas is a complete team. We won't get past them with out the likes of Fist.
"Inches' confidence must be at an all time low.

Another nice outing by Smyly. Let's hope the league doesn't solve him anytime soon.

Yep a nice outing, but the relief pitching did us in, (along with a errant throw by Avila) and once again our bats couldn't deliver with men on base. The Rangers aggressive running won the game for them..

Relief pitching only let in 2 runs in 4 innings I believe. That's about par. We're having a very hard time scoring against Texas.

No question the Rangers are the best team in baseball and the goal for any team, Tigers, Rays, Angels or Yankees is to unseat the two time ALC's . They appear to be the favored team so far. Although our pitching has been great, the batting has not lived up to expectations yet. It 's a shame that only our ace, JV, the MVP-CYA winner was the only pitcher on the roster to slow down the Rangers and hand them a rare loss.

After exploding for 26 runs in the opening series vs the Red Sox, the Tiger batters scored 14 runs in three games vs the Rays, 8 runs vs the WhiteSux , 10 vs the Royals and only 12 in the four game series vs the Rangers.

So although they are averaging 4.37 runs per game, it was 8.66 in the first series vs Boston and only 3.38 since and the result is a 7-6 record since then.

The Tigers need to find a pitching staff they can tee off on and hopefully the Mariners give them a chance to do just that before they head to Yankee Stadium this weekend.

Prince Fielder has been playing as advertised so far. Very high average. I feel like every single time I look at a box score, he has at least a hit.

Yep Fielder is leading the starters with the highest batting average, but probably has less dingers (2) than most expected (but on track for 32). :bs:

Old School HQ has posted here in a year, but on Facebook today he did suggest that "we trade for another second baseman (get Polanco back) stick him in the second spot, and move Bosch back to 6 or 8th and waive Inge. He also indicated that we trade Delmon Young to Boston for Carl Crawford."
    '

Well those are some radical changes for the conservative Leyland-Dombrowski team. Bosch did strike out three times yesterday in addition to his home run and you can't have Cabrera coming up to bat with no one one base. Especially if Ajax was victimized by a strikeout too, even though he has been better this year.
