If you were the manager, you would have taken him out after 66 pitches after he retired 9 straight and struck out 9 guys? Give me a break.

Pretty stereotypical list of names for baseball managers.

I'm sure Leyland wasn't going to extend him to 130 pitches again. He never said he would yank him after 66 pitches, though. The plan was probably to keep him in the 90-105 pitch range.

Like I said in an earlier post, the Tigers lead the league in hitting, and the most hits, but can't get the key hit that would probably have them 14 games above .500 instead of just 7.

Case in point, they get 4 hits in the top of the 5th tonight and don't score a single run..... two guys thrown out at the plate....one trying to score from second and other on a force out and then Dirks who might be second on the team in leaving runners on base behind Vmart, grounds out to end the inning. If they lose by one run you will understand our frustration of a nice pitching performance being wasted.

Getting caught at home is big time baseball.

We don't like to quote ourselves, but what did I say earlier?? Another great performance by a Tiger pitcher that goes by the wayside because the Tiger batters put men on base but can't move them around. 9 hits...and not a one crosses the plate. Dirks leaves 6 runners on base....
Two 1-0 run losses in two days by the best hitting team in baseball....
Now I ask you...who is more frustrated than me and Leyland? :crying:

I would somewhat agree with you there....but the offense shouldn't be relying on just player.

Torii went to see his son graduate, we should have someone who can step in and deliver in his absence. As good as Miggy has been, unfortunately he has not had that magic touch after the 8th inning when we need that tying, go ahead or winning hit/run. I think he tries to hard then. Today he was great in the early innings, with two doubles, but never saw home plate.:cheeky-smiley-012:

Cabrera is batting .516 with runners in scoring position. I think he needs some help. :)

Pirates just shut us down. We did have a lot of hits to be shut out, but the toss outs at home plate explain a lot.

At this point last year, I think that we had a negative run differential and we obviously made it to the WS. It would take a lot to rattle my confidence in this team this early in the year.

It WAS a BAD loss, Dre and good winners DO take bad losses hard. It's OK. THATS what makes them WINNERS. Yankees, Lakers, Celts, Patriots, Steelers , Serena, Tiger, Jack Nickalus, Wings and even our OLD Bad Boys hated losing. College grads who go on to better things in life abhor getting C's and even B's instead of A's. Its true that the Tigers will lose 68-75 games this year..but that DOESNT mean we have to like it!...Thats why we have a GOOD forum..yes even a BETTER forum than most..instead of a BAD one. As a Curtis Mafield once sung "We're A Winner!"

IMO, that loss was better than most, despite your well placed capitalizations. Fister had his best performance of the year throwing a shutout with 12K's and only 1 BB through 7.0 innings (he's the starter with the lowest strikeout rate so far this year). We had 2 innings of shutout relief. We also had 9 hits, including 1 by Fister.

The Pirates had 3 straight hits in the 4th and didn't end up scoring. We had 4 hits in the 5th and didn't score. Tit for tat.

2 guys thrown out at the plate signals aggression.

Even with the last 3 games not going our way, we're 6-4 in our last 10, which is the best in the AL Central.

I understand that you want the players to care, but does it make a "fan" a winner if he takes losses hard? And does blaming the 3rd best coach in baseball for a loss qualify as taking the loss hard?

I punched a hole in the wall of my bedroom last night after the loss. My wife asked me why I was being such a winner.
